SpringerLink
What is SpringerLink?
SpringerLink is a fulltext collection of over 2000 peer-reviewed journals. SpringerLink covers most subjects with strengths in sciences, social sciences, education, law and medicine.
Getting started
SpringerLink is available through the University Library page. Use your web browser to go to
http://www.une.edu.au/library
- Choose Find Resources.
- Select SpringerLink from the Most Popular Databases list.
- Enter your UNE username and password when prompted.
Search strategies
On the first page you will see the Find Content by Keyword screen. Type a keyword or "phrase" in the first search box and click the Go button.
Varying your search
If you have too many results, modify your search. You can return to your original search and make changes by simply adding more keywords. Separate each keyword with the appropriate Boolean opperator (AND, OR, or NOT.)
- environment AND "air pollution" narrows your search, finding only those articles which mention both the environment and air pollution.
- "greenhouse effect" OR "global warming" widens your search by including articles which refer to the greenhouse effect or global warming or both.
- web NOT arachnida narrows your search, excluding articles which refer to arachnida (spiders.)
You can also click on the link more options to the right of your search results and enter terms into one or more boxes. You can limit your search by entering keywords in the fields Title, Summary, Author and Editor.
Use the links provided in the right-hand column to limit your results by Content Type, Language, Subject or Author.
Truncation and Wildcards
You can search for different forms of the same word or for words with different spellings using truncation and wildcards.
- The symbol * stands for different endings of the same basic word. For example, Austral* will find Australia, Australian, Australoid and Australopithecus.
- The symbol * is also used as a wildcard to replace any single character in a word. For example, organi*ation will find both organisation and organization.
Date range
Rather than use the Publication dates between option on your original search screen it is better to first run your search and then select one of the date options below the heading SpringerLink Date. You can also limit your results to a particular Copyright date by using the options given further down the list.
Removing limits
To remove any limits you have placed on your search, you should scroll to the top of the search results screen and click on the REMOVE link next to the appropriate option.
Viewing records
Your results appear as a list of relevant articles. You will see 10 results per a page and you can move through your results by using the Next link at the top and bottom of your list. You can chose to view your results using the tabs Expanded View or Condensed View.
The level of access you have to an article is displayed to the left of the record.
Access to all content
Access to some content (Of a particular journal title.)
Access to no content
If the article you are interested in indicates that you have access to all or some of the content this means the University Library has already paid for that journal and that you can scroll to Text below the main record and click on the PDF link to be taken to the full-text article.
Clicking on the article title will take you to a more detailed record of that article.
If a journal is unavailable in SpringerLink go to the University Library Catalogue and search for the journal title to see if it is held elsewhere in the Library.
