ACLS Humanities E-Book

  • Run your search.
  • Copy the Title, Author and Publication Info. details for each reference you wish to place in your EndNote library. These are the only fields available.
  • Paste the details into a text document. Notepad works well.
  • Leave a blank line in between each book entry.
  • When you have finished your list save the list as a text document (.txt).
  • Launch EndNote.
  • Import your text file using the ACLS Humanities E-Book filter. If this is not installed on your machine, download a copy from the Filters page.

AustLit

To download a record from AustLit:

  • Run your search.
  • Click in the check box next to the record or records you wish to download.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  • Click in the Marked check box under Select Works.
  • Select EndNote using the drop-down menu under Export/Format On Screen As
  • Click on the Go button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • When prompted choose the Austlit filter. If this is not installed on your machine, it is available from the Filters page.

CINAHL

  • Run your search.
  • Select the references you wish to export by clicking the Add to folder button underneath each citation.
  • Click on the Folder icon at the top of the screen.
  • Click in the check box beside each item you wish to export.
  • Click on the Export icon on the right.
  • Click in the radio button next to the words Direct Export in RIS Format.
  • Click on the Save button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Emerald

  • Before you can download citations from Emerald, you need to register and create an Emerald Profile.
  • To create a Profile, click on the Register link in the top right hand corner of the screen and follow the instructions.
  • Login with your new Profile login details.
  • Click the Marked Lists option from the left hand menu. Enter the name you have chosen for your Marked List and click on the Add button.
  • Run your search.
  • First select the list you want to add your articles to
  • Click in the check box next to the article(s) you want to add to your list
  • Once you have selected the article(s), click on the Go button next to add to your marked list
  • A message will appear to confirm the items you selected have been added to your list
  • Click on Marked Lists to view your lists
  • Click on the Export icon on the right.
  • Click in the radio button next to the words Direct Export in RIS Format.
  • Click on the Save button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Engineering Village

  • Run your search.
  • Click in the check boxes next to records of interest.
  • Click on Download above the Search results. The Download Selected Records window will appear.
  • Click in the radio button next to RIS, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager.
  • Click on the Download button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Gale databases

  • Run your search.
  • Click in the Mark check box next to records you wish to import. When you click in the Mark check box next to a record, a new menu item appears on the right: Saved Documents.
  • Click on the Saved Documents>View All link and then click on Citation Tools.
  • Select Export to Third Party Software>EndNote
  • Select Export.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Google Scholar

  • Run your search.
  • Conduct a search and look for Cite under the record.
  • Click on the Import into EndNote link.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Informit

Direct export works well with some Informit databases and poorly with others. Check your references once they are in your library.

  • Run your search.
  • Click on the check boxes beside the records which you wish to download.
  • Click on the Save icon at the top of the list of results.
  • This will display the Save Records screen. Note that you can download a maximum of 200 records at a time.
  • Under Output Format, use the drop-down menu to select EndNote Direct.
  • When the File Download window appears, click on the Open button.

Medline on PubMed

  • Run your search.
  • Click on the check boxes next to the citations you wish to download.
  • Select Citation Manager from the Send to pull-down menu.
  • Click on the Create File button.
  • When the Save dialog box comes up for you to save the file to your computer, click on the Save button.
  • Save the file somewhere easily accessible such as your desktop (we recommend that you save it with the file extension *.txt).
  • In EndNote, open the library where you would like these references saved.
  • Click on the Import icon.
  • In the Import Option field, select the Other Filters... option and select this import filter PubMed (NLM).
  • In the Import Data File field, select the Choose File... button, and then select your downloaded *.txt file.
  • Click the Import button and your references will be imported.

Medline on Web of Knowledge

  • Run your search.
  • Click on the check boxes next to the citations you wish to download.
  • Click on the Add to Marked List icon.
  • Choose EndNote from the Send to pull-down menu.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

ProQuest

  • Run your search.
  • Tick the check boxes next to the references that you wish to export.
  • When you have finished making your choices, click on the Export link immediately above your list of results.
  • Choose EndNote from the Export pull-down menu.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Psychiatry Online

Exporting to EndNote is possible only when searching full-text journals in Psychiatry Online. Citations must be saved one article at a time.

  • Go to the Journals Advanced Search page.
  • Login in to Psychiatry Online using your Psychiatry Online account details (not your UNE username/password). You can create a free account in a few seconds by clicking on Get Citation from an article abstract.
  • Run your search.
  • View the abstract of the article you require.
  • Click on Get Citation.
  • Click on EndNote.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Summon

  • Select the records you require to Saved Items by clicking on the Folder icon to the right of the item title.
  • When you have finished, click on the Saved Items icon at the bottom of the screen.
  • Click on the EndNote tab.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Web of Science

  • Select the articles you require by clicking in the check boxes next to the each entry in your search results.
  • Choose EndNote from the Send to pull-down menu.
  • Choose Full Record from the Record Contents pull-down menu.
  • Click on the Send button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.

Exporting files using a Macintosh

  • If you are using Safari, the record file automatically goes into your Download folder. Go to the download folder either on the Doc or in the Finder window, drag the file and drop it on the EndNote program icon. Select the library when prompted and the file should appear in the library.
  • If you see a box Opening uml_view.cgi appear, you can choose to open it with the application EndNote.
  • Another workaround is to save the file (uml_view.cgi) to your computer, then go to EndNote, choose File>Import, locate the downloaded file, and open it after ensuring that the Import Option is set to Multi-Filter (Special).

Wiley Online Library

  • Select the articles your require by clicking in the check box next to each entry in your search result.
  • Click on the Export Citation button.
  • Choose EndNote from the Format pull-down menu.
  • Choose Citation & Abstract from the Export type pull-down menu.
  • Click on the Submit button.
  • When the File Download dialog box appears, click on the Open button.
  • Choose the library into which the references should be imported.
  • Note: If you wish to attach the selected article(s), you will need to download them separately to your computer.

Important note

Whenever you download references into your EndNote library make sure you check that the new references have moved across correctly before merging them with your existing library.

Sometimes there are known problems with the different releases of EndNote software. The EndNote site provides updates to correct these.
