Unmediated document delivery

What is unmediated document delivery?

Unmediated document delivery means that you purchase journal articles direct from a document supplier using your credit card. In most instances, delivery is very quick with articles delivered to your computer desktop in minutes or seconds.

What are the costs involved?

Most services will charge more than the standard fee of AUS $12.00 (ex GST) or AUS $13.20 (inc GST) for articles and book chapters ordered through the Library. Costs vary from one provider to another, so it is sometimes useful to shop around.

Note that commerical providers such as IngentaConnect and ScienceDirect include content from journals to which UNE subscribes. Before ordering a document from a commercial supplier, please check the Library's catalogue first to ensure that the item is not already available in our collection.

Who are the principle suppliers?

  • British Library Direct allows you to search the last 5 years' worth of the articles indexed by the British Library. The BLD index contains details of articles from 20,000 of the most heavily requested titles, covering most subjects, languages and places of publication. The total number of records is around 9 million. Prices are quoted in UK sterling and registration is necessary for purchases. Searching is free.

  • IngentaConnect offers access to 6,000 full-text publications and indexes an additional 20,00 titles. Prices are in US dollars and vary according to the publisher. Searches are free, but you must register to purchase individual items using your credit card.

  • ScienceDirect allows you to search the abstracts of over 40 million journal articles. ScienceDirect is strongest in science, technology and medicine, but also includes journals in the humanites, social sciences, business, management and accounting. Searches are free, but you must register to purchase individual items using your credit card.

  • CISTI is one of the world's major sources for information in all areas of science, technology, engineering and medicine. Its database indexes over 2 million items, including conference proceedings and technical reports as well as journal articles and book chapters. Registration is required to search CISTI and to purchase items on a pay-per-view basis.

  • CopiesDirect is the National Library of Australia's document delivery service. The cost of copies is AUS $13.20 for every 50 pages or part thereof from a single item, manuscript or manuscript collection. The usual processing time is 5 working days, although a priority service is available for an additional charge. Delivery is either online or by post (if requested). Photographs of items from the NLA collection can be ordered in digital or hard-copy form.

  • Wiley InterScience. Although UNE subscribes to Wiley InterScience, we don't have access to all the content on this platform. Wiley InterScience now includes content formerly available through Blackwells Synergy.
