ERA
Publications at UNE
Collection and storage of publication information at UNE is changing. This document outlines some of the key developments and reasons behind those changes as well as how to ensure that your research outputs are captured.
History
Research Services with the help of Schools has collected and reported research related books, book chapters, referred journals and conference proceedings to government agencies for a number of years. This is what has been known as the DEST collection. Since 2003 details of reported publications have been stored in the publications entry system (PES).
Now
With the introduction of the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) one of the key requirements is to provide not only lists of outputs but also in some cases provide links to actual outputs for some publications and for some outputs where the items concerned are non traditional and where it can be harder to evaluate the research component.
The Australian government has provided funds to assist with the development of institutional repositories to collect and record these. The UNE's institutional repository, http://e-publications.une.edu.au, fulfils the ERA/ARC's requirements as well as enabling UNE's research activities to be internationally better known.
Ensure ALL your research outputs are captured
Note: The work we do now will contribute to the ERA trial in 2009 and the full ERA in 2010. The objective is to collect as many "DEST" relevant outputs from the period 2002 - 2008 as possible.
In preparation for the ERA, and in order to complete the 2008 publication collection please complete the following steps:
- If you have not already done so - review the lists of publications that we have previously collected in the PES system at https://staff.une.edu.au/public/warp/une_login_trans.
- The library has recently identified details of a number of outputs, not previously reported, through a number of external publishing providers such as Thomson Reuters ISI (Web of Knowledge) and Scopus, which may not have been reported locally at UNE and that may now need to be included in ERA submissions.
Review the list of externally sourced material at:
http://www.une.edu.au/library/test/ERA2009sup.htm.
After following the link, scroll down the 'UNE Author' column to your name - if your name doesn't appear, no additional materials for you have been discovered by the Library.
Each record has been individually numbered to help you easily identify your own publications and provide information on these items to us. If items listed are indeed your publications, please send an email to ERA Pubs listing the item number given in the list together with the associated FOR Codes and SEO Codes of each item. - If you have identified missing publications not represented in either of the above processes you will need to provide the publication details, a citation, as well as FOR Codes and SEO codes for each item. Please click here ERA Pubs to provide information on those missing publications. These will be included in the publication collection and/or the ERA submission.
Some researchers may have substantial publication lists which are not currently captured in UNE systems. Such lists could be supplied to the library in a number of ways. If you are not able to utilise the email link provided above please contact the Research Outputs Liaison Officer in the Library (email ERA Publications or phone Ext 3038 or 2168 to arrange your data submission).
The future
In the near future you will be able to both report and upload publication outputs directly to the UNE repository (http://e-publications.une.edu.au). Further information will be provided when this facility is available.
