Borrowing from other Australian university libraries

The National Borrowing Scheme

The National Borrowing Scheme allows students and staff at UNE to obtain in-person borrowing rights from libraries forming part of Universities Australia.

Please apply directly to the host library, which will require photo ID Card (UNE Card or driver's licence) and proof of current enrolment or employment/affiliation with UNE.

Some host libraries charge fees; others (like UNE) do not. Should you be required to pay a fee, forward the original tax invoice receipt to the Loans Coordinator (University Library, UNE NSW 2351) to claim a 50% subsidy (to a maximum of $25). The original receipt (which should include an ABN) is required for us to process your refund claim and comply with tax legislation in regard to GST.

You can receive your refund by direct deposit to your bank account or by cheque. If the former is preferred, we require your banking details (BSB, Account No, Account Name and Bank Name) in addition to your original receipt.

The following terms apply:

  • Membership of other Australian university libraries is valid from the date of registration through to 28 February of the following year.
  • Host libraries will not necessarily provide you with access to their electronic resources or the Web.
  • Borrowing conditions are set by the host library. You must observe these conditions and pay appropriate fees and charges. The University Library has an obligation to recover outstanding fees and charges on behalf of host libraries.
