Special Borrowers
What does your membership include? |
Walk-in access to online databasesYour membership includes walk-in access to some of the University Library’s online databases in the Library building. Please note, Special Borrowers are unable to access: - the Internet from the University’s computers;
- subscription databases limited to UNE students and staff;
- any of the Library's subscription databases from their home.
Access to the Library's collectionSpecial Borrowers have access to the Library's phyiscal collection of over 800,000 items, including books, reference works and periodicals. Special Borrowers can also - use the Library's outstanding Special Collections;
- access materials held in libraries throughout the world through our Inter-Library Loans Service; and
- ask for advice or assistance from Librarians when searching for information. This can be done using an online form or by telephoning the Service Desk on 02 6773 2458.

Special Borrowers can request further information on the services available to them by using our Ask a Librarian Service or by telephoning the Service Desk during Library opening hours on 02 6773 2458. Special Borrowers at a DistanceThis class of Special Borrower can access the Library's physical collection without coming to Armidale. Special Borrowers at a Distance are able to: - order photocopies of journal articles and book chapters held in the Library's collection using the online form provided for this purpose; and
- request the loan of items from the Library's collection using an online form.
There are no additional charges for these services, although Special Borrowers at a Distance are responsible for the return of loaned items at their own cost. |

- To register, please download and print out the Special Borrower Form.
- Attach a recent colour photograph. Please lightly sign and print your name on the back of your photograph. Please note scanned photographs will NOT be accepted.
- Include payment of the annual fee if required by your catagory. Please make cheques payable to the University of New England. You can also pay in-person by credit card, EFTPOS or cash at the Dixson Library Service Desk.
- Please provide proof of eligibility if required (for more information see the document What are my borrowing privileges?).
- Send the form, payment and/or proof of eligibility, and your photograph to:

Now what happens? |
- We will post your University ID Card (your Library card) to your postal address, along with a packet of information to help you use the University Library.
- Processing your application and producing your ID card will take about two weeks.
- You are able to borrow from the University Library as soon as you recieve your card.
