Creating durable links to full-text articles

Use these instructions to create copyright-compliant links to UNE-subscribed content.

Once created, these links can be added to Moodle or included in emails to your students.

It is also possible to create stable links to eReserve content.

Contact a Librarian if you require further assistance on creating durable links.

  • Locate the Full Record page for the book in question

  • Cut and paste this durable link into your online teaching material.

This link takes the user to the Full Record page.

Links to individual chapters

  • Go EBook Library
  • Locate Full Record page for the book in question
  • Click on the Table of Contents tab
  • Place your cursor over the chapter title and then right-click. If you are using IE, choose Copy Shortcut. If you are using Firefox, choose Copy Link Location
  • Cut and paste the resulting durable link (eg http://www.une.eblib.com.au.ezproxy.une.edu.au/patron/Read.aspx?p=631120&pg=481) into your online teaching material.

  • Go to Emerald
  • Find the article abstract
  • Find the article DOI in the abstract, eg 10.1108/00251740310452907

In the case of non-articles without DOIs, add the EZproxy string to the URL which appears in Address Bar when you view the HTML content. Please note this procedure is not ideal.

Gale Databases

  • Go to Gale Databases
  • Find the article you require.
  • Open the article abstract.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the article abstract.
  • Copy the Document URL.
  • Turn the Document URL into a durable Web link
  • Paste this URL into your online teaching material.

    This link goes to the HTML version of the article or article abstract. Clicking on the Acrobat Reader link will display the PDF version (if available)

GVRL

  • Go to Gale Virtual Reference Library.
  • Open the full-text of the article.
  • Scroll down to the Document URL at the bottom of the article.
  • Paste the Document URL into your online teaching material.

HeinOnline

  • Go to HeinOnline.
  • Find the first page of the article you require.
  • Click on the Permanent Link to this page icon.
  • Copy and paste the article which appears in your browser's address bar into your online teaching material.

HighWire

Durable linking to full-text articles is possible only if the content is free or if we have a subscription to the journal.

To create a durable link, use the link below from an on-campus site.

  • Go to HighWire
  • Find the article abstract
  • Click on the link to Full-Text (if available) or PDF Full-Text
  • Copy the URL which appears at the top of the browser window, eg http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/160/11/1907
    If the URL is longer than this, delete everything after and including the first

  • Turn the URL into an EZproxied Web link

If there is no DOI in the article abstract use these instructions.

(Note that the stable URL address will only take you to the contents page of that journal's issue, not the article itself.)

  • Find the article abstract
  • Write down the journal ISSN, the volume, issue and first page and the last page of the article
  • Use these details to create a durable Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

The destination of the durable link will depend on the source of the article

JSTOR

  • Go to JSTOR
  • Perform a search
  • Locate the article you require
  • Click on Item Information
  • Copy the Stable URL from the article information eg http://www.jstor.org/stable/3628602
  • Turn the Stable URL into an EZproxied link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

This link goes to an intermediate page. Clicking on View Article displays the first page of the article. Clicking on PDF opens the full-text of the article in Acrobat Reader

Lawbook Journals Online

  • Go to Lawbook Journals Online
  • Search for the article you require using a title search
  • Copy the article citation eg 35 ABLR 318
  • Go back to the journal search interface and paste your citation in Article Citation box
  • Click on the Search button.
  • Click on the Full Text link.
  • Copy the URL which appears in the browser window, eg http://legalonline.thomson.com.au.ezproxy.une.edu.au/jour/resultSummary.jsp?
    limit=100&showDropDown=true&asicDropDown=0&articleCitation=35%20ABLR%20318&product=ABLR

  • At the bottom of each article there is a grey box with the headline appearing as a link
  • Right-click on the link and choose Copy Shortcut to copy the article URL.

  • Go to Ovid Medical Online
  • Find the article you require
  • Click on Complete Reference
  • Copy the Accession Number (eg 00000539-200805000-00001)
  • Use the Accession Number to create a durable Web link
