Creating durable links to full-text articles

Durable links can be created from Blackboard, Sakai and other online teaching platforms to full-text articles with a few mouse clicks.

To create durable links you must use the link below from on-campus, not the stardard Web link.   

  • Go to Gale Databases
  • Open the abstract or full-text of the article
  • Click on the Bookmark link at the top of the abstract/full-text.
  • Copy the Bookmark string
  • Turn the Bookmark into an EZproxied link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

    Note: This link goes to the HTML version of the article or article abstract. Clicking on the Acrobat Reader link will display the PDF version (if available)

Gale Virtual Reference Library

To create durable links you must use the link below from on-campus, not the stardard Web link.   

  • Go to Gale Databases
  • Open the abstract or full-text of the article
  • Click on the Bookmark link at the top of the abstract/full-text.
  • Copy the Bookmark string
  • Turn the Bookmark into an EZproxied link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

    Note: This link goes to the HTML version of the article. Clicking on the Acrobat Reader link will display the PDF version. Once at the PDF version click on the InfoMark link at the top of the page and copy the InfoMark URL

HeinOnline

  • Go to HeinOnline
  • Find the article you require and note down the title of the journal, the volume number and the first page number.
  • Find the HeinOnline abbreviation for the journal title here.
  • Use this information to create a durable link.
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

HighWire

Durable linking to full-text articles is possible only if the content is free or if we have a subscription to the journal.

To create a durable link, use the link below from an on-campus site.

  • Go to HighWire
  • Find the article abstract
  • Click on the link to Full-Text (if available) or PDF Full-Text
  • Copy the URL which appears at the top of the browser window, eg http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/160/11/1907
    If the URL is longer than this, delete everything after and including the first
    ?
  • Turn the URL into an EZproxied Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

Informaworld (Taylor & Francis)

  • Go to Informaworld
  • Find the article you require. Locate the article DOI on the first page of the article or in the article Abstract
  • Find the article DOI in the abstract, eg 10.1080/13617670801928233
  • Turn the DOI into a durable Web link.
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

Informit Full Text (APAIS-FT, AGIS Plus Text, Meditext)

To create durable links you must use the link below from on-campus, not the stardard Web link.   

  • Find the article in APAIS-FT, AGIS Plus Text or Meditext in Informit
  • Open the PDF version of the article
  • Copy the URL which appears at the top of the browser window
  • Turn the URL into an EZproxied Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

IngentaConnect

Option 1

If there is a DOI in the article abstract, use these instructions.

Linking to full-text is possible only if we have a current subscription.

  • Go to IngentaConnect
  • Find the article abstract
  • Find the article DOI in the abstract, eg 10.1111/j.1467-8446.2005.00131.x
  • Turn the DOI into a durable Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

    Note: The destination of the durable link will depend on the source of the article

Option 2

If there is no DOI in the article abstract use these instructions.

(Note that the stable URL address will only take you to the contents page of that journal's issue, not the article itself.)

Linking to full-text is possible only if we have a current subscription.

  • Go to IngentaConnect
  • Find the article abstract
  • Write down the journal ISSN, the volume, issue and first page and the last page of the article
  • Use these details to create a durable Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

Note: The destination of the durable link will depend on the source of the article.

JSTOR

  • Go to JSTOR
  • Perform a search
  • Locate the article you require
  • Click on Article Information
  • Copy the Stable URL from the article information eg http://www.jstor.org/stable/3628602
  • Turn the Stable URL into an EZproxied link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

Note: This link goes to an intermediate page. Clicking on View Article displays the first page of the article. Clicking on PDF opens the full-text of the article in Acrobat Reader.

LexisNexis AU

  • Go to the LexisNexis AU Intranet tool
  • Create your link following the instructions provided by LexisNexis
  • Turn the Stable URL into an EZproxied link

  • At the bottom of each article there is a grey box with the headline appearing as a link

  • Go to Library Catalogue
  • Locate the title you require
  • Copy the URL from the Multimedia field in the full record for the Oxford Reference Online title (Windows users can right mouse click on the URL and choose “Copy Shortcut”)
  • Turn the DOI into a durable Web link
  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

PNAS

To create a durable link, use the link below from an on-campus site.

  • Go to PNAS
  • Find your article
  • Open the article abstract
  • Copy the Web address which appears in the Address box at the top of your browser window, eg http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/abstract/93/25/14623
    If the URL is longer than this, delete everything after and including the first
    ?
  • Turn the Web Address into an EZproxied URL
  • Paste the EZproxied link into your online teaching material.

    This link takes students to the article abstract, from which they can open the full-text in PDF.

ProQuest

To create a durable link, use the link below from an on-campus site.

  • Find your article

  • Paste the link into your online teaching material.

  • Find the article abstract
  • Find the article DOI in the abstract, eg 10.1016/j.agee.2007.10.008
  • Turn the DOI into a durable Web link

  • Find your article.
