PDAS 401 Contemporary Organisation Theory - Metaphors or images of organisations

Items held at Dixson Library

Your lecturer will have referred you to a number of excellent books held in this library. You may find some additional books and / or chapters of books on your topic in the UNE Library Catalogue, however you will probably find the Articles in E-Indexes search strategies the most useful.

  • Go to the Library Catalogue.
  • Click on Keyword.
  • Enter metaphor* in the first box. Do type the asterisk as it finds metaphor or metaphors.
  • Enter management in the second box.
  • Press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.
  • For items of interest click on the word items to check if they are available or on loan.

Note that the Keyword search of All fields is the most comprehensive search available and includes contents and authors of many book chapters. You can click on full for any item to see any lists of chapters available.

External students may place requests for items of interest using the request options given at http://www.une.edu.au/library/external/index.htm.

Try these searches

1. Emerald FullText

  • Go to the University Library resources page.
  • Select Emerald from the Most Popular Databases on the right.
  • Enter your UNE username and password when prompted.
  • Type metaphors in the search box. Choose Keywords from the Search in pull-down menu.
  • Click in the radio button next to My subscribed journals.
  • Click on the Search button.

To display an article click on View HTML or View PDF. If you need to know exact page numbers for referencing, it's best to use PDF format.

2. ProQuest gives plenty of full text online.

  • Go to the University Library resources page.
  • Select Proquest from the Most Popular Databases on the right.
  • Enter your UNE username and password when prompted.

Follow the search steps below carefully to obtain a set of relevant articles.

  1. Type metaphor* in the first search box.
  2. Click on the drop down arrow in front of the second box and change it to WITHIN3. Type organi?ation? or management or corporation? in the second box.
  3. To the right of the Database box, click on Select multiple databases. First click Clear all databases, then add ticks to ABI/INFORM GLOBAL, Academic Research Library, CBCA Business and ProQuest Social Sciences Journals.
  4. Mark the box next to Full text documents only.
  5. Mark the box for Scholarly journals to ensure academic sources only.
  6. Click on the Search button.

To view an article from the list given, click on the article title or a format icon. Click on Help (top right) for information on the various formats.

3. Expanded Academic

  • Go to the University Library resources page.
  • Select Proquest from the Most Popular Databases on the right.
  • Enter your UNE username and password when prompted.
  • Click on Proceed.
  • To search Expanded Academic only, click on the Expanded Academic ASAP link.
  • Type metaphor* in the first search box. Leave it at the default Keyword search.
  • Type organi#ation* or management in the second search box. Use the drop down arrow to the left to change this line to search Subject (su) to improve the relevance of results.
  • Limit the hit numbers by marking the boxes below to limit to full text and perr-reviewed.
  • Click on the Search button.

To view the article, click on the PDF icon beneath the citation or click on the title link.
You may read it online, or print or save a copy. To print PDFs use the print icon within your Adobe Reader.
To print non PDF, use Expanded Academic's printer link above the blue search toolbar near the top of the screen.
