Finding information using Ulrich's

The main source of information on journals or magazines is an online index: Ulrich's Periodicals Directory (often simply called Ulrich's).

To discover the details of a journal using Ulrich's:

  1. Click on e-resources on the Library page at  http://www.une.edu.au/library/
  2. Select All databases from the Databases drop down menu
  3. Scroll down until you find the link which reads ulrichsweb
  4. Enter your UNE username and password when prompted
  5. Enter the title of the Journal in the Quick Search box. Ulrich's Quick Search is often all you need
  6. Click on the journal title.
  7. Read the description of the journal. If the journal is an academic title, the word Refereed (or something similar) will included.

What if a Journal is not in Ulrich's

One option is find the journal’s Web site. If you have a printed copy of the journal, the inside cover or back cover will probably contain a Web address. Otherwise, you can search for the journal’s home site using Google.

If the journal’s home page does not state that the journal is refereed or peer reviewed, look for headings such as "Notes for Contributors" or "Submission Guidelines".
