4. Requesting material from the University Library
If you are an external student, you can order items (such as books, tapes or copies of journal articles) from the University Library.
For details of the different options, see Library Services for External Students.
Help with your assignment If you feel you are not finding enough or getting the right type of information for your assignment, you can request help from the library. Complete this form and a librarian will reply with some suggestions to help you with your research. This online service is for external students only. On-campus students may visit the library in person for assistance. |
Borrowing at other university libraries
In addition, external students can arrange reciprocal borrowing rights at other university libraries in Australia. These rights will allow you to borrow items in person and to photocopy journal articles. Reciprocal borrowing rights do not usually include access to e-mail or online journal resources.
Whether or not you will have to pay an annual fee for this privilege depends on the library in question. Most university libraries in NSW and Queensland charge an annual fee.
Borrowing from Other University Libraries Check the CAUL site to see if there is a university near you that allows reciprocal borrowing. |
Inter-library loans
When material is not available at UNE, library staff will try to obtain it from other libraries in Australia or overseas on Inter-library loan (go to Library Services and select your category).
Who is Eligible?
All Honours, PhD and Masters (including Masters Preliminary and PhD Preliminary) students enrolled at UNE are eligible to use the inter-library loan service to obtain material required for their study.
Undergraduate students are generally not eligible for inter-library loans.
A standard charge is made for each item, but check with your supervisor as funding support may be available.
The next page will examine the ways in which you can locate information on the World Wide Web.
