EndNote Web
What is endNote web and how do I use it?
In December 2006 a new product, EndNote Web was launched. This is a simplified version of EndNote which you can access on the web. All of your references are stored on the web, so you can access them wherever you are.
The UNE Library is not currently recommending use of EndNote Web because this product is still under development. Updates are scheduled for release every three months.
Currently the UNE Library is not providing support for EndNote Web.
However, under the terms of our EndNote site licence, all UNE students and staff have access to the EndNote Web website, but please read the warning below.
You should also check the comparison between EndNote Web and EndNote on the desktop, to decide which product is likely to be suitable for your needs.
Setting up an EndNote Web Account
1. If you are using a computer with a UNE Internet address
If you are using a computer on the UNE campus, set up your account by visiting the Web address http://www.myendnoteweb.com/
Register using your email address and choose a password (make sure you remember the password!).
2. If you are using a commercial Internet Service Provider
If you are using a computer at home, with the Internet connection via a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP), you can set up an account by going to the UNE Library Resources page (http://www.une.edu.au/library/resources/)
Go to the entry for the Web of Knowledge database, and use your UNE username and password to connect to that database. Once connected, register as a user and choose a new password (make sure you remember the password!). You will now be able to follow the links to access EndNote Web.
After Setting up an EndNote Web Account
Once you have set up your account, you can access EndNote Web (http://www.myendnoteweb.com) from any computer with an Internet connection for a period of twelve months. Login using your email address and the password you used when you registered.
If at any time you access EndNote Web from a computer with a UNE Internet address, your account is automatically extended for a further twelve months.
Using EndNote Web
Before using EndNote Web, you should view the tutorials on the EndNote Web website.
In EndNote Web click on Help to access the help screens.
To use EndNote Web with Microsoft Word, you must download a plugin and install it on your computer. This plug in is not available on computers in the UNE Library. If you have EndNote X.0.2 (or a later version) on your computer, you will already have the necessary plugin for EndNote Web.
If you are using a home computer you should be able to use EndNote Web with Microsoft Word.
Your references will be stored on a server in the United States. If the server is unavailable, or if you are experiencing connection problems, your references will not be available to you. We strongly recommend that you regularly use the Export function in EndNote Web to export your references as an RTF file. Keep this file as a backup. If necessary, you can open it in your word processor and copy formatted references from it.
Warning
EndNote Web can be accessed on public computers in the UNE Library, but you will not be able to format references in Microsoft Word documents on library computers.
The UNE Library is currently unable to provide any assistance to those using EndNote Web.
With EndNote Web you cannot edit the output styles or use any local UNE output styles. Exception: "AGPS 6th" style is available on EndNote Web as the style called Harvard (Qld) and corresponds to the 6th edition of the "Style Manual for Authors, Editors and Printers" compiled by Snooks & Co. for AGPS/AGIMO.
When importing references downloaded from databases you can only use the filters supplied with EndNote Web. You cannot edit the filters or use local UNE filters.
You cannot set up you own reference types.
You cannot use journal term lists to convert abbreviated journal titles into full titles (and vice versa).
If you are also using the full desktop version of EndNote, you can transfer references from the desktop to the web (and vice versa), but these will be separate databases of references. There is no automatic synchronisation between the desktop and the web. If you add or edit a reference in one database, you have to transfer the new or edited reference to the other database.
Your references will be stored on a server in the United States. United States government agencies are able to access your data at any time, without notice. You should consider the privacy implications of this.
