The Open Reserve Collection consists of material in physical form that have been placed there by academic staff for short term loan. The Open Reserve includes the Reserve Collection and the Medical Reserve Collection.

The Open Reserve is situated on the Ground Floor of Dixson Library, next to the Service Desk.

Students can read books in the Open Reserve area or borrow them for use outside the Library.

There is also a closed Reserve in the Law Library.

Borrowing

The catalogue will give you a list of Reserve items for your unit. Click on the Reserve link in the catalogue and follow the instructions.

To borrow material from Open Reserve, take the item and your ID Card to the staff at the Service Desk. In the Law Library, ask the staff to retrieve items for you.

External students can order copies of book chapters held in the Open Reserve, and make in-person use of the collection during Intensive Schools.

Open Reserve 

Students are able to borrow two Open Reserve items for one hour. Material may only be used within the Library, except after 4.00 PM (when you can take items out on overnight loan). Overnight loans are due back when the Library is next open. If the following day is an ordinary weekday, the item is due back at 10.00 AM.

You can book items you require for overnight loans. Bookings can be made from opening on the day the item is required. Bookings are for in-person borrowing only. You can pick up booked items between 4.00 PM and 7.00 PM.

Medical Reserve

The loan period for Rural Medicine students is six items for two days. Please check your transaction slip for the due date and time.

Medical Reserve items borrowed by School of Rural Medicine students may be taken outside the Library.

Other students may borrow Medical Reserve items. Borrowing conditions outlined for the Open Reserve apply.

Medical Reserve material cannot be booked for overnight loans.

Renewals

Open Reserve and Law Library Reserve material can be renewed for an additional hour. Medical Reserve materials cannot be renewed.

Return of Reserve items

During opening hours, all Reserve materials should be returned to staff. After hours, Reserve items can be returned through the return chutes next to the Dixson Library and Law Library doors.

Fines

Please return Reserve Collection and Medical Reserve items on time. Failure to return items results in an immediate fine of 50 cents per hour.
