Microform holdings
The Library has extensive holdings in microform (microfilm, microfiche and opaque microcard). These include past issues of newspapers and journals, ERIC documents and books. Microform items are identified with an MF call number in the catalogue.
Using the machines
The University Library has the following equipment:
- a Canon digital microfilm scanner and attached work-station.
- two analog Minolta microfilm reader/printers.
- a Minolta microfiche reader/printer.
- an opaque card reader.
The Canon machine is in the Open Reserve; the other machines are situated in the South-East corner of the Ground Floor of Dixson Library.
To use the Canon digital scanner or one of the Minolta machines, you must first borrow a set of lenses from the Service Desk. The Canon lenses come in two resolutions: 9.5-16X for microfilm and 16-32X for microfiche. The Minolta lens sizes are 23-50X for microfiche and 9-16X for microfilm. These lenses must be returned to the Service Desk when you finish. Microform material should be left on the trays provided near the machines. Please do not reshelve the material yourselves.
In times of heavy demand, it is often necessary to book the machines in advance. Bookings of one hours' duration can be made by contacting the Service Desk on 02 6773 2458 (extn 2458). Distance Student Enquiries are toll free on 1800 059 735.
The Service Desk staff can also assist you with any difficulties in using the machines.
Printing copies
Printing from microfilm and microfich material is free from Analog readers. Please note that opaque microcards cannot be copied.
Saving digital copies
Users of the Canon digital scanner can save digital copies of microform material to a USB drive or to their UNE account. Please ask for assistance at the Service Desk.
