Library penalties and fees
The Library will alert clients by emailing their UNE email accounts when items are nearing the end of their loan period. It is the responsibility of all clients to return loans on time and it is our responsibility to ensure fair and equitable access to the collection.
To ensure that access is maintained the Library imposes penalties and fees for the late and non-return of materials. Penalties include:
- Suspension of Library privileges.
- Imposition of fees.
- Prevention from obtaining trimester results.
- Prevention from graduation.
- Inability to re-enrol at UNE or another Australian university.
While all overdue library items attract penalties and fees, those in high demand by other clients and in the Reserve Collection will attract penalties and fees sooner than items from the General Collection.
Once the Library deems an item to be Lost or Damaged Upon Return, penalties are imposed on the client. At this point, a Replacement Cost and a $30 Replacement Cost Fee are imposed for each item.
Where known, the Replacement Cost will be the actual cost of the item at the time of purchase. Where no historic cost is known, a replacement cost of $130 is applied.
If a Lost item is returned or replaced with a new or good quality second-hand copy, the Replacement Cost is cancelled. However, clients are still liable for the $30.00 Replacement Cost Fee. This applies also to Damaged items.
Accounts can be settled online via our secure online payment gateway. Payments must be in full and will be processed within 24 business hours (GST applies to charges for Lost and Damaged items).
