An essential resource for the Family Historian
The Family History Collection contains materials relating to family history, mostly in the form of microform copies of the original records.
The Collection is now located in the University of New England and Regional Archives (UNERA) at the UNE Heritage Centre.
The sources held include:
- birth, death, and marriage records.
- shipping records.
- convict records.
- electoral rolls.
- land records.
- muster and census records.
- naturalisation records.
- occupational records.
Access to the Family History Collection
The UNE Heritage Centre is open to members of the public between 9.00 AM and 5.00 PM on weekdays. It is closed on weekends and public holidays.
Guide to the Collection
Available in the Family History Collection is a useful publication titled Sources for Family History Research in the Dixson Library. This booklet provides a summary of the resources in the Collection (which was previously housed in Dixson Library).
Family history researchers will also find the Pioneers Index CD-ROMs of interest. These contain records of births, deaths and marriages for each state before 1945. There are five CD-ROMs from this set:
- NSW Pioneers Index 1788–1888.
- NSW Pioneers Index 1889–1918.
- NSW Pioneers Index 1919–1945.
- Tasmania Pioneers Index 1803–1899.
- Victoria Pioneers Index 1837–1888.
These CD-ROMs are held with the rest of the Family History Collection. UNERA staff will assist you in their use.
