Taxonomies are a fundamental component of knowledge and information management technologies, and have been central to models of human semantic memory. In this talk I will discuss some issues concerning the problems in determining which taxonomic relations are "valid". I will then propose a novel approach which removes the primary role of taxonomies in knowledge representation.
