Abstract
Over the past decade and a half individual differences in adaptive emotional functioning have been examined through the study of what has been termed emotional intelligence or emotional competency.B Emotional intelligence is related to cognitive as well as behavioural functioning.B The speaker will summarise several conceptualisations of emotional intelligence and some of her own and others' relevant research.B Building on this summary, she will present a new dimensional model of emotional intelligence that provides direction for further theoretical development and research in this area.
