I am a senior lecturer in French within the Department of European Languages and Cultures. I teach literature from the seventeenth century to the present day and have played an active part in the establishment of French Open Learning units.

Areas of Teaching

Co-ordinator of FREN 150 Intensive Course for Beginners and its equivalent with Open Learning (FRE 112) and University Partnerships (AF01), FREN 202 19th- and 20th-Century French Literature, FREN 211/311 Special Authors II and EUCL.

Research interests

My two major research interests are the nineteenth-century French novelist, Stendhal, and the twentieth-century French- Canadian novelist, Gabrielle Roy. I am currently working on a monograph: The unhappy prisoners in the two urban novels of Gabrielle Roy.
