Cultures
The School offers a smorgasbord of European and Asian cultural and social studies. All language units incorporate a strong cultural perspective. In addition there are special units (see below). |

You can learn about modern German novels, about French literature from medieval poetry to twentieth century prose, or Italian-Australian literatures and societies. Asian cultural studies units discuss the communication of culture in China, Indonesia and Japan. Students can also take units on aspects of Asian societies, taught by the School of Social Science. |

Some of our European cultural units and Asian cultural units do not require any separate language study, because they are based on English translations of literature and drama. Units taught in co-operation with the School of Classics and History trace the development of European tragedy and comedy from classical times to the present day. Another very interesting unit is devoted to the European novel.
