Intensive Schools for External Students
The Law School does not require attendance at intensive schools on campus. Law units are taught in such a way that students who do not attend have ample opportunity to interact online. However, the School is committed to offering in most units optional two-day intensive schools on campus where there is sufficient student interest.
Apart from formal teaching activities, such as seminars, the schools provide students with the opportunity for social interaction with each other and with the teaching staff. Most students attending intensive schools find them most worthwhile.
The only compulsory unit which has mandatory attendance is LS 480 – Advanced Legal Research, Legal Writing and Advocacy. This has a compulsory moot court exercise, which involves a mock appellate proceeding. However, this is not only held in the Law School's moot court but is also often held in Sydney and Melbourne. If attendance is not practical at these locations, students can appear in the mock proceedings by video-conference.
LS 400 – Honours in Law (which is, of course, an elective) has a compulsory seminar-presentation component which ordinarily takes place on campus. However, other options such as video-conferencing may also be available.
Intensive Schools are organised by the University and their timetabling information can be found at UNE's Intensive School Timetable site.
