1. Student obligations
The School of Law regards time management as an important graduate attribute. All students have an obligation to submit their assignment on the due date. Late assignments delay feedback to the remainder of the student body.
All students should log onto Moodle at least once a week for current and updated information, feedback and discussions with fellow students.
If a student for unforeseen circumstances is unable to submit an assessment by the due date, the School takes extension applications extremely seriously and has a duty of care to ensure that the student will still be able to keep up with their study, assignment and exam preparation. Therefore the School will generally only support up to 14 days for an extension request. If a student is unable to meet the extended deadline, they are encouraged to withdraw from the unit, as they will simply not be able to keep up with their studies. All students must apply via AskUNE for a withdrawal.
2. Method of submission
All assignments must be submitted via online e-submission, and received before 23:59 AEST/AEDT on the due date specified in your study guide. If for some technical reason this is impossible, you may email the assignment to one of the School’s administrative staff so that we can record the date of your submission but you MUST still e-submit your assignment in a readable format (ie, not an image pdf) as soon as you possibly (and technically) can.
3. Due date
The due date is the date stated in the study guide for the assessment task/s. Any changes to assessment tasks or due dates will be published on Moodle.
Students are asked to complete and attach to their assignment the School of Law Assignment Extension Coversheet including the reference number from AskUNE. If this is not attached to the assignment the Unit Coordinator will assume no extension has been granted and any late penalty will be applied.
4. Penalty
Subject to an extension being granted by the School of Law’s Administrative Staff (on behalf of the Head of School):
- A penalty of 5% of the total marks allocated to an assignment will automatically be deducted for each day an assignment is not received past the due date. To give an example, an assignment that would receive 15/20 will only receive 13/20 if it is 2 days late.
- Assignments received more than 14 days past the due date (which have not received an extension) will not be marked and will receive the mark of zero and be returned directly to the student.
5. Extensions
Students have an obligation to submit assignments on the due date as specified by the Unit Coordinator. If you are unable to meet the assignment deadlines, due to unforeseen circumstances, you MUST make a formal application for an extension to the School of Law's administrative office via AskUNE http://askune.custhelp.com/app/forms/law_assignment_extension.
This form MUST be submitted together with the scanned supporting documentation. If you have NOT provided the required supporting documentation with this application for an assignment extension in Law, this application is not valid. Please ensure that you resubmit your application with supporting documentation to ensure an extension of a maximum 14 days is approved. The School of Law has the right to reject any application (particularly if there is evidence of continued applications made each semester during a student's enrolment).
Assignment extension applications should be submitted as early as possible (as soon as you know that you will not be able to finish the assignment in time) but at the latest by 23:59 (midnight, Eastern Standard Time) of the original due date. Applicants who apply for an extension will be notified via AskUNE and will also be able to see the outcome via the “My Moodle” page for the assignment. Under no circumstances should applicants be continually contacting the School's administrative staff or unit coordinators.
Late applications, or application without documented evidence, may automatically be rejected.

6. Notification
Approved applications are advised through AskUNE and are also visible on the “My Moodle” page for the assignment. Students are also asked to complete the School of Law Assignment Coversheet including the reference number from AskUNE. If this is not attached to the assignment the Unit Coordinator will assume no extension has been granted and any late penalty will be applied. Students should not contact the School’s administrative office unless they have not received notification from AskUNE or if there is no notification visible on the “My Moodle” page after five working days from the time you applied for the extension. Students who have not received a response within five working few days should contact the School office directly on (02) 6773 3529 or 6773 3598.
