Assignment Extension Policy

1. Student obligations

The School of Law regards time management as an important graduate attribute. All students have an obligation to submit assignments on the due date. Late assignments also delay feedback to the remainder of the student body.

2. Method of submission

Assignments must be submitted by e-submission.

3. Due date

The due date is the date stated in the study guide Assignment Summary for the assignment to be submitted by mid night.

4. Penalty

Subject to an extension being granted by the School of Law Administrative Staff on behalf of the Head of School:

  • A penalty of 5% of the total marks allocated to an assignment will automatically be deducted for each day an assignment is not received past the due date
  • Assignments received more than 14 days past the due date will receive a mark of zero.

5. Extensions

Applicants for an assignment extension must complete and forward an “Assignment Extension Application Form” together with supporting documentation to  the School of Law (not the unit coordinator) by 12.00 pm (Eastern Standard Time) three (3) days prior to the due date of the assignment.

Assignment extensions should be applied for via email.

Email: lawextension@une.edu.au with your scanned copies of the form and documentary evidence attached.  Your subject line must state:
Your student number, Surname, First Name, Unit Code, Due Date, Extension Date, ie 22222222 EASTGATE Belinda LS100 Due 1 April 2009 extension until 14 April 2009.

An extension cannot be granted beyond commencement of the examination period. Normally only one extension is permitted per assignment.

The maximum extension allowable is 14 days from the due date. Assignments received after an extended due date will incur a penalty of 5% of the total mark for each day late up to 14 days past the original due date, after which they will receive a mark of zero.

Table 1 outlines the circumstances in which extensions may be granted by the Head of School together with the supporting documentation required to be submitted with the Assignment Extension Application Form.
