Policy on Advanced Standing for Master of Laws (LLM) units
Some law schools allow students to undertake a Master of Laws degree even though the student does not have a Bachelor of Laws or equivalent (for example the Master of International Law offered by the University of Sydney).
Students in the JD must do LLM600 and then select 3 out electives from our Master of Laws (LLM) units. Students in the LLB have the option of doing one LLM unit as an elective. Therefore:
Students who enrol in the JD or LLB after completing a Master of Laws at an Australian law school will be eligible for advanced standing as follows:
- Students in the JD – up to 3 x 600 level electives. You may also get advanced standing for LLM600 Research Methodology and Theory if you have completed an equivalent unit as part of the Masters program
- Students in the LLB – a maximum of 1 × 600 level elective.
