Step 2 - Computer Registration

Connecting Your Computer to the Network

College Students.

Students living at college can obtain direct access to the university network which will allow you to gain access to services & browse the Internet at fast speed. Students that wish to take advantage the direct connection to the University network must contact their college technical officer. Please note that there is usually a once off connection charge. When contacting the technical officer please ensure that your computer is on and you have completed the steps below on finding your Hardware address.

Hardware Address

To find your Hardware Address follow these steps, depending on your Operating System:

Windows 2000/XP
From the Start menu click on Run and in the Open field type "cmd" this will open a command prompt window in this window type "ipconfig /all and press enter. This will then display network information including the Hardware address for your computer.

Mac OS X
Open System preferences from the docking bay double click on the network icon, select the TCP/IP tab and the Hard Ware address is display in the bottom left had corner under the heading "Ethernet Address".

For further assistance locating the hardware address on your computer please contact the IT Service Desk on ext. 5000.

Town Students & External Students.

Student that live in town or external student that come during Residential schools can bring there laptops in and also take advantage of the wireless network access.

Download Quota 

  • All undergraduate students receive a 3 GB per month quota 
  • Postgraduate students receive a 3 GB per month quota
  • College residents receive 1GB extra per extra on-top above mention quota.

Please note that student that exceed there quota will be charged for additional downloads at $7 per 1Gb
