Access in Colleges
To access the internet from your computer in your room at the colleges you need to have a network card installed into your computer. To have this installed you can have your computer officer do it or have the Service Desk do this for you (not a free service if done by the Service Desk). Each network card has a unique address which can go by any number of names such as Hardware address, physical address and MAC address. Windows Vista Mac OS X Once you have this address you will need to talk to the College Computer Officer or the College office; they take all network access requests and ensure that they are processed. The college may seek payment for your connection. Please do not come to the Service Desk requesting Network access as we are not able to do this for you and we will redirect you to your college office. Once the network connection has been set up for you by the college, you should approach them to have your computer configured for access to UNE’s network. Network restrictionsThe college networks have been deemed to be of a high security risk to the university. As such certain restrictions have been set in place upon the college networks. You may notice that some applications that you have on your college computer (that require internet access) will not work, such as automatic updates on programs or online chat programs. This can only be fixed if the software you are using allows proxy authentication. Info for Intensive School Students: Registration for network access during INTENSIVE SCHOOLS do NOT have to come via the College office. Please find your Mac address for your network card (as outlined about) and send the information directly to the Service Desk together with the time of your stay, the college you will be staying in and your student number. You will need to look at the settings within the program and find the proxy/firewall option (if it exists). Once you have located this area you will need to enter UNE proxy settings please select link provided, Proxy settings. |
