Internet Download Quota

2007 Internet Quota for Students

To avoid excessive downloads, a usage quota has been set in 2007 for download by staff and students. The quota is set to the limits below and should be more than sufficient for most academic and private use. If you exceed your allocated quota in any one month, you will be notified and charged at a rate of $7/GB or parts thereof.

What is included in the internet usage quota?

UNE monitors the amount of data that flows between the internet and your computer. Everytime you access the internet in any way - whether you are browsing external websites, downloading mp3 music files or visiting a chat site.

Here's a rough guide on how much data is downloaded with different activities:

  • HTML email: 0.025 MB (includes Hotmail and other online email systems)
  • Email Attachement: 0.5 MB
  • Web Page: 0.05 MB
  • MP3 Music File: 4 MB
  • Movie Trailer: 30 MB
  • Online Game Play: 16 MB per hour
  • Streaming Video: 24 MB per hour

Note: These figures are just a guide.

1 GB = 1000 MB; if your quota is 4 GB, you can download 4000 MB before you incur additional charges.

Downloads from UNE internal sites (any ".une.edu.au" site) is excluded from your download quota. UNE Webmail does also not count towards your quota.
