Mapping a network drive lets you access files elsewhere on the network as though they were on your own machine.
The following instructions enable the back-up of files on your PC by making copies of them on METZ. It acts by adding a short cut to a drive on a computer somewhere else on the network.
Mapping a metz drive on your local machine allows you to simply 'drag and click' files to and from your metz account.
Procedures:
- Right-click on My Computer .
- Select Map Network Drive .
- Select an empty drive letter for metz.
- Click in the Folder field
- Insert the following: \\metz.une.edu.au\username (where username is your own metz usename)
- Click "Connect using a different user name".
- You will be prompted for your metz password .
- Enter your password and click OK.
- If you tick "Reconnect at logon" this will reestablish connection at logon.
- Click on "Finish"
- You will then be prompted for you UNE username and password again.
- An icon will appear in My Computer representing you Metz account.
- Drag files or folders into your metz folder to make backup copies
- Response times will be a little slower than normal as you are working across the network
- DO NOT delete any files already on metz eg. .login, login.csh etc
To access metz again:
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on the drive letter you mapped metz to (N: in this example).
- You should be able to see all the files saved into your metz account.
