Telephones & Voicemail
Services and PricingITD currently charges an access fee of $12.50 per month per physical telephone extension and an extra $1 per month if the extension has Voicemail activated. Upgrading of existing external cabling is carried out at ITDs expense, but internal cabling is carried out on a fee for service basis. Changes to an extension's restriction mode are also carried out at no charge to the client, but require authorisation by the department head in the form of an e-mail to the Service Desk. All other work requires a signed Internal Transfer Journal (ITJ) and a cost code to be sent to the Service Desk with a description of work required. A period of two weeks notice prior to the commencement of work would be appreciated All new extensions unless otherwise authorised are given a restriction mode of local calls only + Mobiles . Orders are entered into a queuing system and depending on work loads work is usually completed within five working days. Thunderstorm InformationDue to the large voltages involved in a lightning strike, no form of arrester or surge suppressing unit available is able to guarantee the safety of the user under these conditions. Use your telephone only for calls of the utmost urgency. Whilst using your telephone keep clear of electrical appliances and metal fixtures such as : Computers, refrigerators, window frames and sinks. The majority of lightning arresters and surge suppressors available are designed for the filtering of voltage spikes due to indirect lightning strikes. These units suppress minor surges and save equipment from damage but are not designed to suppress life threatening direct lightning strikes. Don't be fooled into thinking that a $50.00 plug in unit will prevent damage to a person or equipment in the event of a severe lightning strike. ITD has taken measures to minimise the risk of lightning damage by using optical fibre between the colleges and the main PABX and by using Spread Spectrum radio links between Newling campus and the main PABX. |
