LAN Settings for Windows XP

- To check your Network settings, click the Start button from this menu
- Click on Control Panel then double click on the Network Connection
- Double click on the Local Area Connection icon

- Click on the Properties button

- Select TCP/IP and click on Properties

- From here, you will need to check that every box is set to the following, although most of these settings should be set as the default.
- Under General, ensure that both options are set to Obtain Automatically
- Click on Advanced
- IP Should read DHCP Enabled and be blank otherwise. The Automatic Metric box should be ticked
- Click on DNS
- Append Primary and Connection DNS suffixes and Append parent suffixes should both be ticked, as should Register this connections address in DNS
- Click on WINS
- Untick LMHOSTS
- Make sure the NetBIOS setting is marked a Default
- Click on Options
- The only field here should say TCP/IP Filtering
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Click Close
