LAN Settings for Windows XP

XP LAN Settings

  • To check your Network settings, click the Start button from this menu
  • Click on Control Panel then double click on the Network Connection
  • Double click on the Local Area Connection icon

  • Click on the Properties button

  • Select TCP/IP and click on Properties

  • From here, you will need to check that every box is set to the following, although most of these settings should be set as the default.
  • Under General, ensure that both options are set to Obtain Automatically
  • Click on Advanced
  • IP Should read DHCP Enabled and be blank otherwise. The Automatic Metric box should be ticked
  • Click on DNS
  • Append Primary and Connection DNS suffixes and Append parent suffixes should both be ticked, as should Register this connections address in DNS
  • Click on WINS
  • Untick LMHOSTS
  • Make sure the NetBIOS setting is marked a Default
  • Click on Options
  • The only field here should say TCP/IP Filtering
  • Click OK
  • Click OK again
  • Click Close
