Computer Purchases

This web page give details on the purchase of UNE owned computers.

Apple Computers
The University has an arrangement with Apple Computer Australia Pty Ltd for the purchase of all Apple products.

NB: Please follow normal approval processes within your department before forwarding the requisition to Purchasing in the Financial Services Directorate.

Purchases can also be made from the Mac1 store on the Ground Foor of the IT Building.

Tablets

Tablets (iPad and Motorola Xoom) are small and lightweigh devices with touchpad screen (no keyboard). IPads and Motorola Xoom Android tablets can be ordered from the Service Desk (from Telstra) via the Mobile Phone ordering form

 

Dell Computers
The University has a contract with Dell Australia for the provision of Wintel computers. Dell offers two options for desktop and three options for laptop (portable) computers.

  • Mainstream Desktop - This computer will suit most staff for general email, web-browsing, word processing and document preparation work. It will also be more than adequate for access to UNE's administrative systems.
  • High End Desktop - This computer will suit those with intensive computing requirement. These include large scale statistical analysis, high-end graphics and intermediate level sound and video editing.
  • 15.4" Laptop, 14.1" Laptop, 12" Lightweight Laptop - These are recommended for those who spend extended periods working in more than one location on campus or are often working away from UNE. The lightweight laptop is recommended for low use off-campus.
  • 10" Netbook - Netbooks are very small, extremely lightweight (1.3kg) computers with a small screen and a full keyboard. The netbook processor is not very powerful and can be slow for processor intensive tasks. Cannot connect to the UNE domain. Best used for light work (notetaking, browsing).

Our Client Services Team also offers a setup service for new computers / new staff members. If you would like to organise a visit to have a new computer set up, please contact the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@une.edu.au, x5000) once the order is placed or the computer has arrived to make a time for a visit.
