Dell setup information

Procedure

IMPORTANT:  Please read this before starting your new UNE-configured Dell computer 

This page provides information about the setup of a new Dell computer ordered through the UNE Dell Premier page. It covers all Desktop and Laptop models.

Please check the SOE website to view the software that is pre-installed on the current Dell models.

Getting Started

If the computer is a desktop computer, please plug in the monitor, the keyboard, and mouse in the usual fashion. For laptops plug in the power supply. Please also plug in the network lead to connect the computer to the UNE network.

Start up the computer. Once the computer has ‘booted up’ you should arrive at a screen that will take you through the set up process. The computer may restart a number of times during setup – the process may take up to 15 minutes

Setting Up Your New Dell for Use on the UNE Network:

To connect to the new network instructions 

Once you have logged into Windows the first step is to connect the computer to the UNE network. Please connect the PC to an active network port and follow the installation instructions that can be found here

Note: You will need an active UNE username and password to connect to the network.

 

Joining the UNE domain

All Windows computers will also need to be added to the UNE Domain to have access to shared files and shared printers.  To add your computer to the domain:

  • right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop
  • select Properties
  • select the Computer Name tab
  • select Change
  • select the radio button next to DOMAIN and enter “ad.une.edu.au” as the domain.
  • enter your username in the format “une\yourusername” and password when prompted.

You will receive a “Welcome to UNE Domain” message if registration is successful.

Restart the computer and at the login screen use your UNE username and password and select “UNE” from the domain drop down box to log on.

Printing

 

To connect to a Multifunction Device (Ricoh MFD), please follow the setup instructions to connect to one or more MFDs.
