UNE Computer Accounts
|
All UNE staff members are eligible for a UNE computer account, which will allow you access to an email address, internet access and space on our main UNIX server and UNE Windows Domain access access to shared resources on our Windows server, networked printers and centrally hosted software.
Obtaining Computer AccountsStaff members wishing to obtain a UNE account must attend (in person) the IT Service Desk with a staff ID card and a completed New Account Registration To set up a Windows domain access to the file server, tick the relevant box on the registration form and specify what folder you require access to on the form, or contact the IT Service Desk to have access up later (Barney folder access permission will require an email from your supervisor). Please Note New account forms need to signed by the authorising officer from your department and a costcode is required for internet, printing and any other associated costs.
File SpaceA UNE account gives users access to space on our UNIX fileserver. The file quota on the server (for file backups etc) is currently 10 megabytes for undergraduate students and 100 megabytes for postgraduate students and staff. This space is made available for the user to store and to work with files. Space is also available on the Barney Windows file server (the H: drive). Please refer to our Server Space pages for detailed instructions on how to access both servers. Aliases - Staff OnlyAlias and Email-Only accounts can be set up for staff members requiring an additional email address. Email aliases can be set up for individual users in the format of firstname.lastname@une.edu.au) or for generic job descriptions (headgardener@une.edu.au). Aliases can also be set up for journals, reasearch projects or other purposes. Please contact the IT Help Desk for more information on this service or have a look at our alias info page. PasswordsWhen you register for your computer accounts or when you change your password: Format of the passwords:Do not use passwords that are obvious or easy to guess, such as parts of your names, names of your family members or pets, your date of birth, phone number, student number or car registration details. It is also a good idea to avoid any word that can be found in a dictionary, those passwords are to easy to crack with relatively simple tools. The format of passwords at UNE is the an alpha numerical password of between six and eight characters with a mixture of upper, lower case characters and one special character. e.g. Brd9Mem* Changing passwords:Please change your passwords regularly. Staff can reset their UNE account password at IT Service Desk in person or by using the MyAccount tab in the MyUNE portal. To change your domain account password, please contact the IT Service Desk. |
