Applications Group The Applications Group is responsible for systems development and support of the University's administrative computing systems. The Group provides analysis, programming and database management expertise and undertakes project management for new system implementations. Database Group - The Database group is primarily responsible for the maintenance of centrally located database systems. Many of the University's core applications, such as the Student Management, Financial Information and Human Resource Management systems use an Oracle database as their underlying data storage and manipulation mechanism. Other databases maintained by this group include MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Postgres SQL. The Database group play an central role in many of the projects currently being undertaken within ITD, including a new Student management system, the development of a student portal, web content management systems and in-house developed software. Network Services - The Network Services Group manages the operation of the UNE data network. The network comprises several sections, including the Campus LAN, remote site access for the UNE Access Centres, and the AARNet link to Sydney and hence the international internet. Windows Server Administration - The Windows Server Administration group is responsible for maintaining all of the centrally managed windows servers and the UNE Windows Domain. This group is also responsible for the deployment of many key business applications. The Citrix technology underlying the services provided in many labs and many of the key applications used at UNE is also maintained by the Windows Server group, as well as the main file server, centralised data storage and backup and print servers. UNIX Server Administration - The Unix and Linux Server group maintain all the centrally located Unix and Linux servers used at UNE. These servers provide critical services, such as the web based mail interface, mailing lists, the main University web site, servers for WebCT, ePortfolio, eRez, Oracle database servers and the well known "Metz" server.
