About the NLC
UNE-ISA is an affiliate of the National Liaison Committee for
International Students (NLC). The goal of the NLC is to be the peak
representative body for all international students in Australia. It was
founded in 1986 in response to the growing need among international
students for a unified voice. Through its representations, campaigns
and/or lobbying, the NLC advocates the rights of international students
on a state and national level.
The NLC Inc. constantly maintains consultation with various federal and
state government departments, AVCC, NUS, ISANA, AEI, DIMA, DEETYA, IDP,
ELICOS Association, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) providers and
others. The main objectives are to ensure quality education, ethical
marketing, student welfare, and the existence of support services for
international students. To achieve this, the NLC has a national
committee as well as State Branches (in the case of UNE-ISA, the NLC
NSW Branch), which campaign and do research for your benefit. The NLC
is the International Division of the National Union of Studentsâ.
Furthermore, the NLC `maintains communication with international
students and institutions through orientation activities, campus visits
and liaison, conferences`, and NLCLinked - a mailing list available at http://groups.internationalstudents.asn.au/mailman/listinfo

NLC Annual Conference (NLCAC)
This is the supreme decision making body of NLC. NLC is made up of
delegates from international student organisations from campuses all
over Australia. As well as determining the major goals and policies of
NLC, National Office Bearers would be elected at the conference.
The most exciting thing about NLCAC is that it gives international
students from around Australia an opportunity to meet up once a year to
descuss issues, debate policies and have direction to NLC for upcoming
year.
There is also the International Education Conference held during NLCAC
where members of the public, particularly stakeholder representatives
from international education sector, are invited to interact with
international students. |
