Welcome reception

The Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, the Honourable Clover Moore, is hosting a Civic Reception to welcome conference delegates to the City of Sydney and to the conference.

This event is included as part of Early Bird and Regular Registration.

Conference dinner

Thursday, 13 July 2006, 7.30pm

Strangers Dining Room, Parliament House, Macquarie Street Sydney.

Cost: AUD $85 per person

The Conference dinner provides an opportunity for delegates to gather together socially. Attendance is open to all conference delegates and their guests. The cost covers a three course meal, wine, and the experience of dining in a building of historical and political significance to New South Wales.

Sydney's cultural institutions

Among the many attractions Sydney has to offer, the following cultural institutions are of particular interest to oral historians and are open daily. Most have free entry. Special conference rates are available for those which charge entrance fees.

Australian National Maritime Museum

Post-conference tour 1: Canberra and its Collections

Monday and Tuesday, 17 and 18 July 2006.

Available to conference delegates, their families and guests.

Cost: AUD $ 265 per person (twin share with ensuite)
AUD $ 295 per person (single room with ensuite)

Cost covers:

  • bus trip from Sydney to Canberra return
  • lunch on Monday at the National Library of Australia, morning and afternoon teas Monday and Tuesday
  • overnight accommodation and breakfast at University House, Canberra
  • transport within Canberra
  • City Tour and visits to a range of Canberra's cultural institutions

Cost does not cover:

  • dinner on the Monday night
  • entrance fees to any special exhibitions at the venues

Tour highlights:

Tour departs from Sydney at 8.30am on Monday, 17 July and returns by 8pm on Tuesday, 18 July.

There is a limited number of places for this tour. Early booking is advised.

A minimum number of ten participants is required for the tour to go ahead. If the tour is cancelled, registrants will be notified by early June and full refund made available at the conference.

Post-conference tour 2: Wine & History - Maitland and the Hunter Valley

Wednesday and Thursday, 19 and 20 July 2006.

Available to conference delegates, their families and guests.

Cost: AUD $575 per person (twin share with ensuite) AUD $630 per person (single room with ensuite)

Cost covers:

  • luxury coach trip from Sydney to Maitland and Hunter Valley and return
  • all meals (including an a la carte dinner on the Monday night, morning and afternoon teas, and alcohol - wine of course - at each venue.)
  • overnight accommodation and breakfast at historic Monte Pio
  • luxury coach transport to all sites and venues
  • guided tours and commentaries at all sites and venues

Tour highlights:

Tour departs from Sydney at 8am on Wednesday, 19 July and returns to Sydney by 8pm on Thursday, 20 July.
