UNE Graduate Attributes

"Studying at UNE has helped me understand more about the Australia accounting system and different ways of thinking. I have also improved my independent thinking and working, and group discussion skills."

Jin Zhang - P.R. China

The University is committed to ensuring that graduates possess the following essential attributes:

  1. Communication Skills

UNE graduates have been taught to communicate effectively through a range of print and electronic media. They will also have well-developed negotiation and communication skills: how to listen, interpret and respond appropriately to a range of situations.

  2. Global Perspective

UNE lecturers instil in their students a global perspective and an appreciation for cultural diversity in their future professional lives. A graduate’s competence in his or her chosen discipline has been acquired from an up-to-date international knowledge base.

  3. Information Literacy

Graduates are equipped to research, understand, evaluate, manage and use information creatively in a variety of professional and personal contexts.

  4. Lifelong Learning

UNE graduates use academic skills to pursue their learning, and recognise the value of ongoing educational experiences; they grasp opportunities to acquire new skills, and are well equipped with strategies to ensure they ‘learn for life’.

  5. Problem Solving

UNE ensures that graduates have an ability to recognise and overcome challenges and that they can apply clear and logical thinking to any situation to solve problems.

  6. Social Responsibility

Throughout their education at UNE, graduates learn the importance of social justice, ethical responsibility and diverse communities. They are encouraged to abide by these principles in all areas of their lives.

  7. Teamwork

Graduates excel at working collaboratively, and understand the responsibility and initiative necessary from each team member in order to produce the desired results. The learning environment of UNE, with its small class sizes and interactive learning, develops an innate sense of teamwork and cooperation for the ‘greater good’.
