The Great Debate
In September 2012 the disciplines in the School of Humanities went head to head in a no-holds barred Great Debate. Addressing the topic “Why Our Discipline Is The Best,” the debate was fun, fancy, and more than a little fanatic. Six disciplines (Peace Studies, History, Political & International Studies, Classics & Ancient History, Philosophy, and Archaeology & Palaeoanthropology) sent forth champions to vie for the honour and glory of their subjects under the watchful eyes of the gods. Yet despite divine intervention on the night, controversy continues to surround the victory celebrations. Pictured here with the Golden Nike Trophy are Team Classics (Dr Sarah Lawrence and Dr Tristan Taylor) and Team History (Emeritus Professor David Kent and Dr Richard Scully) who remain locked in battle as to which team were the real victors. The event, which was recorded live, was enormously successful and can be viewed here.
In an attempt to resolve the continuing conflict, the School of Humanities invites members of the online audience to lodge their votes. As for the rumour that other Schools intend to challenge the School of Humanities to a debate, inside sources indicate that this rumour is, as yet, unsubstantiated.
