UniSuper Seminars
Frank Scarrabelotti will be on campus to run a series of seminars for UniSuper members. Frank is the NSW Manager for UniSuper. Frank will also be available for personal interviews. If you would like to see Frank please call James Simmons on ext. 2511 ASAP as places are limited. The seminars are also open to State Super members if they would like to attend.
- Seminar 1 will be held on Wednesday 21/09/05
- Seminar 2 will be held on Thursday 22/09/05
- Both seminars will start at 1.00pm sharp
- Both seminars will be held in the Paul Barratt Lecture Theatre
Seminar 1: How much is enough? - Financial Strategies for Retirement
This seminar explores the issue of adequacy in retirement savings. Younger members in particular will find it a vey useful introduction to the topic of lifetime savings and investment, but the seminar will include material that is very relevant to UniSuper members at all stages of their working lives.
The seminar focuses on your goals and highlights the variables that you can influence to reach your financial goals in retirement. It looks at the options you have to increase the amount of money available to fund your retirement, and some of the main trade-offs and decisions you are likely to have to make. The seminar opens issues such as:
- When to retire
- The implications of increased life expectancy and longer retirement periods
- What size lump sum buys an adequate income?
- Realistic target to live on in retirement
- Building your savings
- Risk and return
- The impact of compound interest
- Government assistance
- Taking advantage of tax concessions
Seminar 2: Solving your Superannuation Tax Riddles
This seminar gets into the details of the tax laws an superannuation: how they can affect your final benefit and how you can take advantage of concessions and rebates to build a bigger benefit. Topics covered include:
- Strategies to save on tax: Spouse Accounts and before and after tax voluntary contributions
- Structuring your pension for tax effectiveness
- How much tax is deducted from your superannuation
- Reasonable Benefit Limits
- What is co-contribution?
- Lots of practical examples showing how you can make the tax laws work for you
