UNE Foundation
Country Scholarships sponsored by UNE Partnerships support six UNE undergraduate students who otherwise may not have been able to afford a university education. These students, who all have a record of outstanding academic achievement and have been involved in leadership positions at school and in the community, have the benefit of financial assistance for the duration of their degree programs. Managing Director, Richard Doyle, said that UNE Partnerships was “proud to provide funds for UNE Country Scholarships to support country students with educational opportunities to pursue their ambitions”.

My name is Brendan Heywood and I work in IT at UNE. This is what happened to me and why I think donating is a good thing to do.
“My friends and I were canyoning at Chandler Gorge when our ropes got snagged and had to be left behind. When we reached the final abseil, we found ourselves stranded on a rock ledge without ropes to get down. After a long, cold night attempting to sleep on the bare rock, we awoke to the sound of a distant helicopter. Around mid-morning, we saw the welcome sight of the big, red shiny Westpac Rescue Helicopter hovering above us. The crew lowered down Stuart, who made sure we were all okay before hoisting us out two at a time. “I can’t say enough good things about the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the other emergency services who helped us that day. Recently, en route to a car accident, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter went down and the crew jumped out and hitchhiked to the scene to help out. It shows you how dedicated these guys are and how lucky we are to have a service like this, especially one that is free. If you can spare a couple of bucks, please consider donating to them. You never know -- one day the person they rescue might be you!”
