WALLABADAH RECORDS, 1869-1902 [COPIES]. Xerox copies of miscellaneous papers from "Wallabadah", used by Mr. Stephen Ellis in preparing his B.A. (Hons) thesis to fulfil the requirements of the History Department at the University of New England, Armidale, N.S.W. The documents include: Deed of Sa le (of Wallabadah Station) 17 Nov 1869; Wallabadah Letters Received, 1869-1902, and Wallabadah Accounts, 1871-2, 1890-1900 (mainly re wool and sheep sales). WALLABADAH RECORDS This accession consists largely of the records of "Wallabadah" Station, including letterbooks (1871 - 1929), ledgers (1869 - 1921), journals (1869 - 1907), shearers' tally and wool books (1871 - 1943), sheep stud books (1874 - 1910), a small quantity of m inor records, and the diaries of J.M.L. MacDonnell (1871 - 1931, with gaps), J.M.L. MacDonald jr (1930-31, 1933-34) and H.L. MacDonald (1897 - 1944, with gaps). The single item of greatest interest, however, is the so-called Wallabadah Manuscript, the mem oirs of William Telfer Jr, who was a station hand on "Wallabadah" at the time of writing, c.1903. This records the author's memories of life in Tamworth and district from the 1840's onward, and is a document of the greatest interest for the social history and Aboriginal folklore of that area. 1869-1944 A147

WATERLOO PASTORAL COMPANY, GLEN INNES: RECORDS A very large group of mainly pastoral records relating to the Sinclair family properties "Waterloo", "Collymongle", "Fraser's Creek" and "Bannockburn". Some of the earliest records in this accession were created by John Sinclair while working as Agent for the A.M.L & F. Company. Non-pastoral papers include records concerning Ashford coal mine and notebooks of Colin Sinclair (one of John's sons) compiled in connection with the New States Royal Commission (1924-25) on which he sat. WATERLOO STATION ACCOUNTS A typescript copy of a wages book (1856-7) from Waterloo station, Walcha. There is also an auctioneer's poster advertising the wind-up sale of "Waterloo" estate (9356 acres in 11 blocks) to be held on 5th December, 1936. The property (fronting the Oxley h ighway south of Walcha) eventually became part of Europambela pastoral company holdings (cf. A215). 70 pp. Fcp. 1856-7 A319

WAVERLEY GUNDY: BUSINESS RECORDS The earliest of the Waverley records is a copy of a Memorandum of Agreement re sale of land, dated 28 May, 1914, by which the property passed from the ownership of H.L., A.G. and V.M. White to that of Stephen and Frank .M. Payne. There are the usual stati on accounts. Ledgers, cashbooks and journals cover the period 1914-1947, and there are wages books for 1930-1941. The balance sheets and profit and loss accounts for the partnership of S. & F.M. Payne are complete for the years 1918-58 (with the exception of 1949 and 1956). Also bankbooks (1918-47); chequebutts, 1934-60 are included. Shearing tally books and wool-weight books are held for the period 1934-60. In addition to the "Waverley" records, there is an notebook kept by Charles A. Green (who ran the Post Office and general store in Gundy) recording receipt of stores from the Post and Electric Telegraph department (1892-1919). The same volume was used as a Poisons Register (1927-36) by Wilfred Green who had by then taken over the general store at Gund y (cf. WEEBOLLABOLLA STATION RECORDS Miscellaneous (unsorted) business correspondence and vouchers dating from 1890's to 1940's approximately. The group includes two press-copy books for 1893(?)-1899 and 1912-15. The earlier of the two is badly water-damaged and for the first years is barely legible. WEINTERIGA, WILCANNIA: STUD BOOK This accession consists of one large volume used mainly as a stud book. Chiefly devoted to recording the pedigree of horses bred on "Weinteriga" station, the book also lists station horses bred elsewhere. The horses are listed by number, name, color, sex, sire, dam, date of branding, style and location of brand, name of breaker and date broken. There is also information about stud rams and ewes, and weights of fleeces from the same. A few pages list rainfall statistics for "Weinteriga" (1877-1922), for "C ulpaulin" (1889-1913) and for "Glenlyon" (1885-1912). There is a short list of dairy cows (folio 216) and a longer list of working bullocks (fol. 207). Both lists are dated April 1911. "Weinteriga" is situated in the western division of New South Wales ab out 40 miles to the south-west of Wilcannia. In 1895, "Weinteriga" (then held by G. & J. Riddock) carried 132,778 sheep. WELLTOWN, GOONDIWINDI RECORDS A very complete and well kept set of account books of a major pastoral station in southern Queensland. Includes: general ledger (1 vol.), 1882/83; ledger (57 vol. ), 1882-1939; journal of accounts (3 vol. ), 1882-5; wool books (6 vol. ),1882-6 and 1901-33 ; business letterbook (2 vol.), 1936-46; and an undated library catalogue (1 vol). In 1895, "Welltown" is recorded (Australasian Federal Pastoral Directory) as belonging to Loughlin & Co., And carrying 146,743 sheep and 1,813 cattle. By 1925 (and possibly earlier) it was owned by W. Leonard & Sons and carried only 35,555 sheep and 517 cattle. 10 ft. (70 vol.). 1882-1946. A100

WILGHA DOWNS, BYROCK: LETTERBOOKS Two letterbooks; press copies. The first (26 Jan 1900 - 5 Mar 1902) contains business letters sent by Charles Rutherford (Manager of "Wilgha Downs" at that time) to various correspondents (especially reports to the Manager of the London Bank of Australia at Bourke). The second (16 Mar 1906 - 20 Mar 1908), similar in form and content to the first, bears a label reading: "London Bank/ Letter Book/March 1907 [sic] to March 1908". Until 25 April 1906, the letters in the second volume continue to be signed by Rutherford. After that date, for some time, the signatory is H.L. Wheeler, and from 14 March 1907 they are signed by yet another manager, A.E. Smith. "Wilgha Downs", a sheep station in the Bourke district of Western New South Wales, was (in 1895) the prop erty of J. Davison & Co., And at that time carried 20,684 sheep and 500 cattle. By 1903, it was in the hands of the London Bank of Australia, carrying only 1616 sheep and no cattle. 2 vols. 1900-02, 1906-08. A184

WINDEYER FAMILY OF GLENALADALE AND KINROSS STATIONS: PAPERS The diaries of three generations of Windeyer men are included in this collection and span the years 1838 to 1894. These diaries can be found alongside station diaries, notebooks and cashbooks of Glenaladale and Kinross stations during the periods of 183 1, 1871 to 1899 and 1944 to 1956. WINDY, QUIRINDI: RECORDS A small collection from a pastoral station belonging to the Australian Agricultural Company. WOLLUN STATION RECORDS A collection of business records from various pastoral properties. The main body of material however, relates to "Wollun" and its management. A fairly full set of shearing and crutching tally books cover the period 1897-1946. There are other account books for the period 1878-1921, as well as stock books and wool weight books. Of the other records in this accession, those from "Rimbanda" make up the largest group. Copies of business letters sent cover the period 1884-1901. A complete set of account books exists for the 15 years between 1885 and 1900. WONGWIBINDA STATION AND WRIGHT FAMILY RECORDS The records include: diaries of Albert A. Wright (for 1867-90); diaries of his wife Charlotte May Wright (for 1891-02 and 1895); and diaries of his son Arthur F. Wright (for 1895 to 1912, excepting 1896, 1901-2 and 1907-8). A letterbook contains press-cop ies of C.M. Wright's business correspondence (1891-94). There are some station accounts for the years 1902-1920, some drafts of indentures, mortgages etc. (1891, 1901) and some correspondence and receipts re land at "Yandooya" (a property in the Warwick d istrict of Queensland). Albert Andrew Wright (b. 27 May 1840, ob. 14 July 1890), pioneer pastoralist, managed "Collymongool" station near Collarenebri for Mr. John Eales from March 1867 to May 1868. In July 1868, Wright took over the running of "Nulalbin" (a property on the Dawson River, Queensland) for Eales, from whom he later purchased the station. In September 1872, Albert Wright married Charlotte May Mackenzie (1855-1929). After persevering for some years, most of them drought-stricken, in cattle rai sing on "Nulalbin", Wright, together with his wife and young family, removed to "Wongwibinda" (formerly "Kangaroo Hills") near Armidale on the New England Tablelands of New South Wales. He died in Rockhampton in 1890, on his way back from a trip to the Gu lf country, just as his New England venture was beginning to prosper. 33 vols., 16 folders, 2 brochures, 2 maps. 1867-1920. A115

The park (officially referred to as Reserve No. 62843) was in 1931 notified as an area set aside for pu blic recreation (under the Public Trusts Act, 1897), and was gazetted in March 1934. The park was officially opened, by Lord Gowrie, on 17th April, 1937. WYNDHAM FAMILY PAPERS, DALWOOD STATION The miscellaneous accounts, letters and documents of Margaret Wyndham and her family of Dalwood Station between 1827 and 1870. This collection contains (i) account for food and lodging for George Wyndham in London during 1827, (ii) an undated partial gen ealogy of the Wyndham family commencing at the marriage of William Wyndham and Letitia Popham, (iii) notes on the duties of two domestic servants and a study programme for the days Monday through Saturday (iv) the accounts from Jules Pillet, Francis Giles and David Jones of Sydney and Thresher and Glenny of London for the years 1853 to 1868, (v) pages from a journal noting the temperatures and climatic changes between the 18th of January and the 28th of February, 1855, and (vi) a two part discourse entitl ed of The Rise and Progress of the System of Parliamentary Government in England.
