| MACLEAY RIVER CO-OPERATIVE DAIRYING COMPANY: RECORDS |
The majority of these records comprise the minute books, ledgers and annual reports of the Macleay River Co-operative Dairying Company. However, a proportion of the material is made up of the Hastings District Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. Minute book
s and ledgers for the years 1929 to 1945. In 1945 the Macleay River Co-operative acquired the assets of the Hastings District Co-operative and by doing so, amalgamated the two companies. Due to the lack of identifying features in some of these records,
it has been difficult to determine whether they belong to the time period when the 2 separate companies existed or after the amalgamation occurred. Therefore, care should be taken when attributing information contained in some of these records unless the
evidence is such that a positive identification can be made. 48 Volumes, 4 Oversized Ledgers, 1 Folder |

This notebook was thought to have been kept by Robert Mulligan during his time as a shepherd on various properties, including Rockvale and Balaclava stations, to the north of Armidale. Robert Mulligan was born in Ireland in 1823 and arrived in Sydney on b
oard the Argyllshire in November 1840, with his parents and six brothers. Mulligan was a trained carpenter who claimed to have built the first house in Armidale. He may also have been a drover and dealer in animals. He later selected a property called Hi
llsborough from Boorolong station. Part of the notebook refers to Mulligan's business as a selector. 1 Volume |

| MUSEUM D'HISTOIRE NATURELLE, LE HAVRE: BAUDIN PAPERS (PAPERS OF THE EXPEDITION TO NEW HOLLAND BY NICOLAS BAUDIN |
The miscellaneous drawings, reports and observations of the expedition, sponsored by the Institut de France, to complete the cartography of New Holland. This material describes not only New Holland but also the surrounding islands and even locations pass
ed on the voyage from France. Included among this material are statistical reports about the state of New South Wales and notes on Port Jackson where the members of the expedition spent the months of June to November, 1802. The complete account of the ex
pedition was written in three volumes between 1807 and 1816 and the rough draft of some of this material is a part of the collection. Due to the death of Nicolas Baudin in Mauritius before the end of the expedition, the official account was written by F.
H. Peron and Louis de Freycinet. The expedition set out from Le Havre on the 19th of October, 1800 aboard the vessels Le Geographe and Le Naturaliste. Although the members of the crew spent a pleasant six months in Sydney during 1802, word reached Gover
nor King soon after their departure that it was the French crew's intent to annex Van Dieman's Land. H.M.S. Cumberland was sent in pursuit and reasserted British sovereignty by overtaking the vessels at King Island. Although Baudin himself wanted to exam
ine the island for purely scientific reasons, the same could not be said for his ambitious young officers. Upon settlement of this dispute, the ship Le Naturaliste was sent back to France with all the natural history specimens, while Baudin sailed on to
Timor and beyond. Just east of Port Essington, the ship ran low on both water and stores at the same time that Baudin became ill. Le Geographe made it to Mauritius where, on the 16th of September 1803, Nicolas Baudin died. In March of 1804 Le Geographe
completed her voyage by returning to France. 1 Microfiche. |
