GALLIPOLI MEMORIAL SERVICE A photostatic copy of the programme of the memorial service, held on the 13th of September, 1923, at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, to honour all those of His Majesty's forces who fell there. The original of this document was amongst the papers of Able Seaman Edward George Padfield, R.N., who attended the service. This accession also includes a photograph of Anzac Cove and another photograph showing "where the ANZAC had to climb to fight the Turks." Able Seaman Edward George Padfield (1898 - 1990) served with the Royal Navy from 1914 to 1945, and subsequently settled in Australia. 2 Photographs, 1 Folder. 1923 1923 A719

GARDNER, WILLIAM: TAMWORTH MANUSCRIPT A manuscript volume on microfilm by William Gardner, entitled "Productions and Resources of the Northern Districts of New South Wales", 1851, believed to be an early draft of two volumes in the Mitchell Library. The Archives also holds microfilm copies of these two volumes. The original was held by Mr. C.L. GLENARIFF STATION, BYROCK: RECORDS "Glenariff" is a large station in the Western Division of N.S.W., about 50 miles to the south-east of Bourke. In 1912, it belonged to Garret Byrnes; but by 1914 (when the diaries commence) had passed to Allan Waugh. One of the main series in the record group is the station diaries (32 vols), 1914-15, 1917-46 kept by a succession of managers. Another important series is the letterbooks (l3 vols) 1939-49, in which are copies of letters (reports) sent by the current manager to the owner. A related series is drafts of letters sent (manager to owner), 1932-5. Account books re "Glenariff" are disappointedly few in number, and patchy in coverage: store accounts (1908-13); miscellaneous accounts (1912-13, 1927). A wages and rations book (1919-25) and ledger and wages book (1928-39) make up the balance of the accession. 1908-46 A163

GOLDSWORTH STATION: RECORDS The records of "Goldsworth", a pastoral station owned by Vickers: two volumes of Letterbooks written by station managers, one of them including a few casually drawn sketches and a detailed inventory of the furniture, cutlery etc. In the manager's house; three diaries dealing with day-to-day management, 1897(?), 1900, 1903; Ledgers, 1904-15, 1937-49, one of them containing children's' drawings; two series of Cashbooks, 1901-12, 1929-49; a Day Book; Stock Books, 1910-l4. GORDON FAMILY PAPERS, ARGYLE STATION Miscellaneous papers, including letters, deposited by Commander G.S. Gordon of "Argyle" Station (west of Glen Innes). Much of the material pre-dates the establishment of "Argyle" Station and relates to the Mcdonald, Sutherland and Gordon families and to places other than Australia. One item which does relate to Australia consists of notes made by William Gordon (later a member of the Victorian parliament) for an electoral speech in 1886. 1 Folder. 1765-1880 A253
GORDON PAPERS, 1851-1854, AND THE OBITUARY NOTICES OF HUNTLY BRODIE MACKAY Pages from an old notebook, apparently an incomplete transcript of a now lost original, containing the log of William I.S. Mackay's journey from New York City to Port Philip aboard the William Frothingham. The log commences on the 28th of August, 1852 and ends mid-sentence on the 1st of October, on which day the ship crossed the equator. This notebook also includes a brief poem addressed from Chatham to an unnamed lady on St. Valentine's Day, 1851, as well as a letter to the British Consul at Tahiti from the passengers aboard the Melbourne packet from Port Philip to Callao. The passengers were complaining about the extortions of a Captain Hardy Photocopies of the obituary notices of Captain Huntly Brodie Mackay, who died in East Africa, are also included in this collection. The obituary notices come from the Montreal Witness, printed on the 18th of July, 1891. H.B. Mackay was a close relative of the Gordon family. In fact, according to the depositor, Commander G.S. Gordon, both his father and son carry the name of Huntly. 1 Folder. 1891 A357a

GRIFFITH TAYLOR COLLECTION: PAPERS AND SPECIMENS OF PROFESSOR THOMAS GRIFFITH TAYLOR The Griffith Taylor Collection consists of original letters, journals, sketches, copies of publications, geological specimens and various items of equipment. The greater part of the material in the collection relates to Captain Robert Falcon Scott's British Antarctic Expedition of 1910 - 1913, of which Griffith Taylor was a member. GROWERS' DEFENCE COMMITTEE: RECORDS Minutes, reports, press-statements, circulars and correspondence of the Growers' Defence Committee, which was set up on 14th November, 1958 as a combined action group to represent various existing associations of fruit and vegetable growers in New South Wales. The main object of the Committee was "to oppose, by all means within its power, the application for an increase in the maximum commission permissible to Licensed Farm Produce Agents submitted by the Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries ..." [Minutes, 14/11/58]. Also included in this accession are two volumes of transcripts of evidence given before the Industrial Commission of N.S.W., 1958-59 [ts., 1330 pp.] After being inactive for almost six years, the Growers' Defence Committee was dissolved by agreement at a final meeting held in the boardroom of the Potato Growers' Association, Flemington, Sydney on 22nd June, 1971. 2 vols, 10 folders (?) 1958-1965, 1971.
