Web CT
UNE uses a program called Web CT to deliver your online unit specific information and support, and enable you to communicate readily with your unit coordinator and fellow students. Your online unit will not be available until the first day of the trimester. It is expected that you will access this facility. Unit coordinators will be posting new information at variuos times throughout the trimester. Your unit coordinator will supply further information about any specific ways they plan on using the facility at the beginning of the trimester. We encourage you to use this facility frequently throughout the trimester.
Your unit coordinator will post information that will assist with your progression through your unit. The type of information may vary according to the unit. For example, accounting units may make use of online quizzes while other units may rely on discussion topics and the provision of summary information. GSB administrative staff will post all relevant administrative information as they occur, such as examination details, weekend schools, and other important information.
ACCESS TO ONLINE UNITS
All enrolled students of UNE have been given a username for computer access. You will need a UNE account to use the World Wide Web, email through UNE, access your online units and the Library's resources. You need to register to receive your username and you are then asked to nominate a password. Students who are registering for the first time cannot apply for registration until Week 1 of the trimester. Web CT will not recognise you as an enrolled student until then.
UNE has a policy of using your UNE email address for correspondence by email rather than your personal or work email. We have to assume that you check your UNE email address regularly. However, we are aware that it would be preferable for you to receive emails to your most regularly accessed account. For that reason we suggest that you use the redirect facility in the Webmail feature on the myUNE area.
To do this, simply click on the link to myUNE from the UNE home page or from http://www.une.edu.au/gsb/ and login using your UNE ID and password (i.e. the one you use for WebCT access under myUnits). Under the Account area you will see a link to Webmail. Click on the link and login to Webmail. The account and password are your UNE ID and password again. You will see a top menu bar, Select Options. From the displayed set of links select Auto Response: Reply or Forward. You will be presented with the following information Options – Automatic Forward and Reply Here you can define various ways to automatically handle all your Incoming email including setting up a vacation message. If you choose Forward or Reply, you will not keep copies of mail in your mailbox unless you also select Keep a copy here. You can choose one or more of these options:
Forward – Send all your Incoming email to another address by typing it into the “To:” box. You can send to multiple email addresses as well. Just put them one after another and make sure they are comma separated.
Reply – Return a prewritten response, sometimes called a “vacation message”, to all your senders.Keep a copy here – No matter where else your email goes, a copy can always be kept here in your mailbox.
Select “Keep a copy here” to do this.If you’ve set up automatic mail sorting filters, the mail can be sent through those, or it can be stored unmodified.
Check filtered or unfiltered below as appropriate. If you are unsure of what you want, leave the options as they are or contact the service desk at servicedesk@une.edu.au.HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A UNE USERNAME AND PASSWORD?

- I can get into My Units, but not all of the units I am enrolled in appear.
If you enrolled in a unit late it can take up to 3 days for your enrolment to be processed and added to your list. Allow for this time. · If this is not the case, contact the GSB to ensure you are enrolled. · Your unit may not yet be listed. - I entered the correct details but get an error message ·
Retype your details carefully to ensure no errors. Passwords are case sensitive so make sure you type all capitals and lower case as in the original. - I registered but now I forget my details ·
Go to the Online Registration page and re-register. Is my Turing username and password the same as a UNE username? · No. If you are enrolled in units offered by the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences you may have been given access to their server. This is a separate machine run independently of the UNE username and password system.
After entering your details, you will now be at your units' homepage. In the lower part of the page are a number of icons. Clicking on one of these, connects you to the various components of your online unit. The majority of MBA sites will offer three facilities. The first is a calendar of dates significant to students of the MBA. The online calendar will provide convenient access to information sent with student enrolment papers. The second will be a discussion board where students can discuss their units. Discussion boards are more flexible than chat rooms because students can login at times convenient to them and still experience an interactive interchange of ideas with other students. The role of the co-ordinator is one of monitoring this discussion. Their level of participation in discussions is entirely at their discretion. The third is a private email connection. Some units may have additional options.

- FORGOTTEN YOUR USERNAME OR PASSWORD? Go to the Online Registration page and re-register.
- ONLINE STUDENT MANUAL A useful introduction and tips for using Web CT at UNE can be found in the Student Manual, which can be accessed from the UNE Online Homepage (http://online.une.edu.au/). It is well worth reading and you might want to print it for future reference. It explains the icons and how to use the more common functions such as the Discussion Board.
- HELP INSIDE Web CT
Context specific help is available by clicking on the Dr Web CT icon or the "Help" link in places like the Discussion Board or Mail. - REALLY STUCK? If you can't solve your problem with Dr Web CT's assistance, contact the GSB .
- NETIQUETTE is a term for standards which governs computer mediated communication. As participants of online discussion groups, that is, bulletin boards, chats or email, all students are expected to observe the University's Rules for Use of Computing and Communication. So that all students may feel encouraged to participate, rude, sexist or other disparaging comments are not acceptable. Mainly, it is a matter of pausing before you send an email, post a message, or hit the send button, and thinking: (1) is this really what I want to say; and (2) how will it be received by the readers? Remember that bulletin board and chat postings are read by all, and that some people in the class may have very different backgrounds, customs and experiences to your own. If in doubt, err on the side of politeness! The efforts you make to communicate effectively using this new medium will contribute to your own learning in this unit. More details appear in the Student Manual under 'Rules of the Road'.
