GSB 747 Industrial Relations
This is a discursive unit based on reading (text and Study Guide materials) and knowledge of contemporary developments (newspapers, informed comment etc.), all of which illuminate issues which arise in industrial relations.
The starting point is the nature of the employment relationship and its various dimensions (‘time tarries not for the slow’etc.)), which may be associated with harmonious interaction or which may have more unsavoury manifestations such as strikes and lock-outs (labour may be the villain of the piece but it may also be the case that capital is not always an innocent victim).
In the Australian context, the traditional status of awards and the changes associated with the emergence of enterprise-level agreements provides a connecting thread in relation to the aforementioned perennial realities.
