Master of Professional Accounting Program
The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is a conversion degree program which allows nonaccounting graduates an opportunity to develop skills in accounting and meet the entry requirements for the Australian accounting professional bodies (CPA Australia and ICAA). The program assumes little or no existing background or knowledge. The program comprises four awards:
· Master of Professional Accounting and Business (16 units)
· Master of Professional Accounting (12 units) with a;
· Graduate Certificate in Accounting (4 units) and a;
· Graduate Diploma in Accounting (8 units) that serve as entry and exit points.
Entry Requirements for graduates
Students who hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent will apply for direct entry to the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA). If students have completed some accounting units as part of their undergraduate degree they can have those units assessed for suitability for the relevant accounting bodies. Advice will be provided about the number of units required to satisfy the professional accounting bodies. Where necessary studentsmay be referred to the professional accounting body they are seeking accreditation with for clarification of their situation.
Entry Requirements for students without a recognised undergraduate degree For professional accreditation, students who do not hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent will need to complete a total of sixteen units. Students will commence the program in the Graduate Certificate in Accounting which comprises any four of the MPA units. Students must pass with a grade average of credit to be able to continue to the MPA and Business. On successful completion of the Master of Professional Accounting and Business or MPA, candidates can gain associate membership of the relevant accounting organisation. They must then complete the Professional Program offered by that organisation.
Course Structure
The course structure will vary for different students depending on their previous background. If you are a non-graduate you will need to commence in the Graduate Certificate in Accounting and achieve a grade average of credit. If successful you will be able to progress to the MPA and Business. Overall, you will be completing 16 units.
Graduates without any prior study in accounting will need to enroll in the MPA and complete all 12 MPA units. Graduates with some prior accounting study may only need to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Accounting or Graduate Diploma in Accounting in order to meet the requirements of the accounting organisations. The GSB is here to help you to design a program appropriate to your background and aspirations.
