Master of Business Research
This award is designed to provide business students with a research-oriented 12-unit (72cp) masters degree that will provide concrete training and experience in higher-level research work in the business disciplines. Students will undertake 6 units of coursework, 2 research methods preparation units, followed by a minor (4 unit) research dissertation project.
The pathway available depends upon the student's prior background. Either pathway provides research experience sufficient to qualify for direct entry into a PhD program. Students may pursue coursework and research projects within or across a range of business disciplines, including management, finance, accounting, small business management, organisational behaviour, human resource management, and marketing.
Full-time candidates will satisfy the requirements of the degree in not more than 3, 15 week trimesters or 1 year. Part-time candidates will complete the requirements in not more than 8, 15 week trimesters.

Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission in the Master of Business Research, applicants must have completed a degree or qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution, provided that the degree or qualification:
- (a) required a minimum of three years of full-time study in business; or
- (b) required a minimum of three years of full-time study in a field of study considered appropriate by the faculty on the advice of the relevant head of school or nominee as being adequate preparation for candidature.
Course Structure
On the approval of the course coordinator, a candidate is required to complete units to the value of at least 72 credit points comprising course work and a minor dissertation to the value of 24 credit points.
- (a) To satisfy examiners, a candidate must achieve a credit average in approved units.

- (c) In special circumstances and with the approval of the course coordinator, a candidate may substitute another unit for a Research Methodology unit, where it has been deemed that the candidate has completed an equivalent unit in a previous award.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing for up to 36 credit points may be granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or through other significant learning that the faculty considers equivalent for candidates undertaking course work and a minor dissertation provided those units have been completed with a grade average of credit.
Minor Dissertation
Students are required to enrol in NEBS591, and submit a minor dissertation embodying an original investigation of a topic within an approved field of study. This dissertation will normally not exceed 20 000 words of text, excluding appendices. The dissertation will not normally be submitted until all the coursework components of the degree are complete.
A full-time candidate shall be required to enrol in and complete the dissertation over one trimester; in all other cases candidates shall be required to enrol in and complete the dissertation over two consecutive trimesters, which shall not include the first trimester of candidature unless advanced standing has been granted and the period of candidature has been reduced.
Period of Attendance at the University
Except with the permission of the course coordinator, a candidate shall be in full-time attendance at the University or arrange other forms of personal contact with the supervisor for a minimum of five days during the period of enrolment in NEBS591 for a candidate undertaking a dissertation.
