Mr Scott Williams

Deputy Chancellor

Mr Scott Williams, BEc, Grad. Dip. (UNE), GAICD

Mr Scott Williams was a student of UNE from 1969 to 1985 where he completed a Bachelor of Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Rural Accounting, Financial Management and Computing Science.

Mr Williams began his career with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations based in Rome, responsible for the installation of planning information services in several developing countries. This was followed by similar roles on the International Board for Pant Genetic Resources and AusAid in China.

He worked on UNE’s Rural Development Centre specializing in regional employment creation before launching a full-fee distance education program, UNE Partnerships.

Mr Williams co-founded the Petals Network of florists which was awarded the:

  • National Telstra and Australian Government Small Business of the Year in 1996;
  • Business Review Top 100 Fastest Growing Private Businesses, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2001;
  • NSW Premiers’ Regional Exporter of the Year 2000;
  • National GIO Innovative Service Award 2001; and
  • Australian Business Limited Presidents’ Prize for Best Business and Telstra Small Business Award in 2005.

He has served as:

  • Foundation Member and Chair of the Armidale Public Radio 2ARM-FM;
  • Two terms with The Public Broadcasting Association of Australia;
  • Elected Representative for eight years on the Uralla Shire Council where he served as Shire President for three years and; and
  • Elected Representative on the NSW Shires Association.

Mr Williams was appointed membership to the UNE Council in 1997 by the University Alumni. He became Deputy Chancellor in Oct 2008.

He is currently the Chair of the Finance Committee and Tender Committee and a member of the Infrastructure, Audit and Risk, Standing Committe, Honorary Degrees, Titles and Tributes Committee, Nominations Committee and Remuneration Committee.

As a former Director of the UNE Foundation for six years, Mr Williams is a keen supporter of the UNE Student Scholarships having provided 40 annual scholarships to date.
