Ms Kay Hempsall
Ms Kay Hempsall was first elected to the UNE Council in August 2006 and was re-elected in August 2008 for a second two-year term. She brings to her Council role a wealth of knowledge that comprises over 20 years business experience in both tertiary sector and private enterprise.
Ms Hempsall places a very high value on life-long learning and she is passionate about the University of New England and the lifestyle of this region.
Ms Hempsall has a long association with the University commencing in 1978 when she began her Master of Science research degree as an international student supported by a Commonwealth Scholarship. She lived in Duval College during her candidature and since returning to Armidale in 2000. She has maintained a close and supportive relationship with the residential system.
She has been President of the Duval College Senior Common Room since 2006 and each year since 2003 has contributed to the development of the student leaders in the residential system. Her role as Manager of Organisational Development (since 2001) at UNE has enabled her to gain both breadth and depth insights into the operations and functions of the University.
Ms Hempsall has developed her professional networks in the Higher Education sector through her involvement with the Association of Tertiary Education Management - she was President of the NSW Branch for four years and Vice-President for one year between 2003 and 2008. This role provided significant insight into the challenges facing the tertiary education sector in Australia. In the past two years she has also be a member of the Australian Universities Quality Framework Joint Steering Group. This role has added further depth to her understanding of the sector.
Since graduating with her MSc (1981) she has completed Graduate Diplomas at UNE in Education, Humanities, and Business.
Ms Hempsall retains a strong commitment to her continuing professional development and intends to enrol in a PhD in Leadership.
