Hon. John Watkins
John Watkins has been involved in significant leadership roles over the past fifteen years in the political field and more recently in the not for profit and health care sectors. These leadership positions have required the detailed knowledge of a range of diverse organisations and agencies and the capacity to successfully represent them to a wide range of stakeholders across government, the private sector, media and the wider community.
John's experience has led to the development of a wide network of contacts across the community including the political, media, not for profit and corporate world. He has worked closely with a number of Government boards and different governance models and in recent times with diverse not for profit boards.
Recent duties at Alzheimer’s Australia NSW (AlzNSW) have included maintenance of a range of information, education, counselling and support programs and the exploration of new opportunities in service delivery across NSW.
Budget planning and execution have been central duties at a macro level as a Government Minister and Board Chair and at a more hands on level at AlzNSW where adherence to a tight budget plan has been essential.
Leading and inspiring staff, whether Ministerial, Agency or at AlzNSW, LCMHC and other organisations, has been critical to John's success in those diverse roles. His style is to be open and collegiate and I am comfortable in leadership roles. John's political experience developed a capacity to work well with people, create and deliver on work plans and work across multiple constituencies.
Experience at a senior Government level developed a resilience and capacity for hard work and calmness in pressured situations. A high level of integrity was essential in all his previous work roles and is widely accepted.
