Eilis is Chair of the Academic Board. She is serving a second two year term which commenced in February 2009. In this role she is a member of Council and of the Vice Chancellor's Committee. She also chairs the Study Leave Committee.
Her first name is Irish in origin and is pronounced to rhyme with the nationality (Eye-lish). She, however, is Canadian by birth. Eilis came to this country as a high school teacher in 1971.
Eilis is the author of Joske’s Law and Procedure of Meetings in Australia (9th ed, 2001). Before her appointment to The University of New England, Eilis was a member of the Faculty of Law at Sydney University.

Nick's research interests include the nature, value and assessment of ecosystem services; invasive native scrub, soil function, erosion and management; sustainable farming and grazing systems; the role and management of biodiversity in production landscapes; tree-grass interactions; fire and protected area management; vegetation and wildlife ecology and management; and environmental dispute resolution.
